Analog Devices announced the release of LTC2862A, an upgraded version of the LTC2862 ±60V-tolerant RS485/RS422 transceiver.

Half-duplex transceivers, which enable bidirectional communication but can only communicate in one direction at a time, have the advantage of eliminating field errors without costly external protection components by protecting actual RS485 systems from installation cross-wiring errors, ground voltage errors, or lightning-induced surge voltages that exceed the absolute maximum ratings of standard transceivers and cause overvoltage conditions.

Both devices operate at 3V to 5.5V supply voltage and are compatible with the TIA/EIA-485-A standard. However, LTC2862A features superior ±40kV HBM and IEC Level 4 ESD ratings with higher specifications, and as a product that improves ESD protection and noise immunity of the previous version, it offers greater robustness and superior signal integrity.

LTC2862A provides high-level protection and reliability for a wide range of RS485/RS422 applications including industrial control, instrumentation networks, and automotive electrical systems. The device can withstand any voltage within ±60V without damage whether the circuit is transmitting, receiving, or in standby mode, or when the power is turned off.
