Providing ICT experience opportunities such as 360-degree live VR, AR, and coding education to students, residents, and soldiers on Yeonpyeong Island

SK Telecom's mobile ICT experience center, 'Tium Mobile,' conducted advanced technology education and various experiential events for youth on Yeonpyeong Island, a frontline island in the West Sea.

SK Telecom is operating Tium Mobile at Yeonpyeong Elementary, Middle, and High School in Yeonpyeong Island, Incheon for three days starting June 28 in commemoration of the Month of Patriots and Veterans. Tium Mobile's visit to Yeonpyeong Island was timed to coincide with June 29, the 15th anniversary of the Second Battle of Yeonpyeong, adding further significance.

Tium Mobile showcased various ICT experience items in Yeonpyeongdo, including coding education using smart robots, the Internet of Things (IoT), augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and holograms, and provided experience opportunities to approximately 2,000 local residents and soldiers, including all 133 students of Yeonpyeong Elementary, Middle, and High School.



In addition, SK Telecom demonstrated a technology that dual-connects Yeonpyeong Island, the National Museum of Korea in Seoul, and the Korea Cartoon Museum in Bucheon via a 360 Live VR service, allowing teenagers to realistically experience the remote location through video transmitted via an HMD (Head Mount Display).



Meanwhile, on the 28th, SK Telecom members continued their talent donation for the youth and residents of Yeonpyeong Island. Coach Jeon Hee-cheol and players Byun Ki-hoon and Lee Seung-hwan of the Seoul SK Knights professional basketball team, who visited Yeonpyeong Island with Tium Mobile, conducted a basketball class for the youth of Yeonpyeong Middle and High School. In addition, various experiential programs were held, including career exploration mentoring by SK Telecom's university student reporter group, 'SK Telecom Campus Reporters,' and free health checkups by the SK Telecom IVD (In Vitro Diagnostics) Planning Team.

Since its launch in August 2014 with the goal of bridging the digital divide for children in small and medium-sized cities, 'Tium Mobile' has traveled to every corner of the country, from Gapado in Jeju, home to the southernmost elementary school, to Cheorwon in Gangwon, a military frontline region. In February of this year, it visited Barcelona, Spain, where 'MWC 2017' was held, providing local children with the opportunity to experience cutting-edge ICT technology. The cumulative number of participants has reached approximately 160,000.
