AI Traffic Jam Pilot Technology Provided

Nvidia announced that it has equipped its transportation sector innovation technologies in Audi's new model 'A8'.

The 2018 A8 equipped with Nvidia technology is Audi's flagship model, which was unveiled through the first Audi Summit held in Barcelona, Spain.

The most notable feature of the A8 was the 'AI Traffic Jam Pilot'. Completed based on Nvidia technology, this system provides an unprecedented level of autonomous driving capability on congested highways.

Rupert Stadler, Audi's chairman, stated in the keynote speech at the event attended by approximately 2,000 spectators, "Future automobiles will enrich the lives of occupants by utilizing artificial intelligence." He also introduced representative features applied to the A8 including Audi AI Traffic Jam Pilot, Remote Park Pilot, Natural Voice Control, and Swarm Intelligence, emphasizing that "Technology matters."

The new A8 from Audi is equipped with various systems based on Nvidia technology, including an innovative user interface, new infotainment system, new virtual cockpit, and new rear-seat entertainment options.

Of particular note is Audi's zFAS driver assistance system, which enables the world's first traffic congestion support system usable on divided highways with entry and exit ramps.

The Traffic Jam Pilot system was designed with consideration for built-in redundancy to prevent malfunction. As the world's first production system that performs autonomous driving using laser scanners equipped with cameras, it scans the entire front of the vehicle. Data input through sensors is processed in the zFAS, and the system generates an accurate environmental model at a rate of 2.5 billion operations per second.
