ROHM Co., Ltd. has developed the industry's smallest 1608 size 2-color chip LED (SML-D22MUW) that enables multi-coloring of the number section in display panels for industrial and consumer equipment.

The product developed this time mounts red and green two-color chip LEDs in a 1.6x0.8mm package, the same size as a single-color chip LED, enabling multi-color display in a narrow space. It is 35% smaller than the existing two-color type (1.5x1.3mm), contributing to the thinning of display panels used in applications.

SML-D22MUW utilizes the PICOLED mounting technology and wire bonding technology accumulated over the years, along with device miniaturization, to mount a red-green two-color chip LED in a 1.6x0.8mm package, the same size as a single-color chip LED. In addition, by mounting a two-color light source in a 1.2x0.8mm light-emitting portion, excellent color mixing is achieved, allowing for the expression of intermediate colors as well as red and green.

Furthermore, by implementing measures to prevent solder penetration into the package, taking into account the customer's usage conditions during reflow, solder penetration into the resin can be prevented. The company emphasized that high reliability is secured by eliminating defects caused by solder penetration.
