Red Hat Acquires Permabit Technologies, a Software Provider for Provisioning
Published2017.08.09 10:46Red Hat announced that it has acquired the assets and technology of Permabit Technology Corporation, a software provider for data deduplication, compression, and thin provisioning.
By combining Red Hat Enterprise Linux with PermaBit's data deduplication and compression capabilities, Red Hat is now able to provide more efficient storage capabilities and support the digital transformation of enterprises more effectively.
As an increasing number of companies seek to leverage the efficiencies offered by digital technologies such as Linux containers and cloud computing, new storage solutions are being required in addition to existing storage technologies to power these services and store data. Storage efficiency is a key capability to meet these requirements, and hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI), which combines storage and compute into a single x86 server, also requires these requirements.
Enterprise-grade open source solutions resolve the challenges that arise when utilizing new digital technologies to facilitate digital transformation in existing storage, and enable the securing of expanded storage capacity to run applications without physically expanding storage by leveraging software technology.
Through PermaBit's technology, Red Hat has been able to apply powerful data deduplication and compression capabilities to Red Hat Enterprise Linux, thereby strengthening its overall hybrid cloud and storage technology capabilities, including Red Hat OpenStack Platform, Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, and Red Hat Storage.
Red Hat plans to open source PermaBit's technology, focusing on continuously providing complete open-source solutions and upstream-first innovation. This will enable customers to improve storage efficiency with a single, fully supported, and open platform, without using heterogeneous tools or poorly supported custom operating systems.

Palo Alto Networks Announces Ransomware Response Strategy
Palo Alto Networks announced ransomware prevention and response measures and introduced 'Traps 4.0,' an intelligent endpoint security solution that supports multi-layered security. Ransomware has expanded its attack scope beyond Microsoft Windows to Android, Linux, and Mac OS, making all internet-connected computers and devices targets. If connected via IoT, it can spread to internet-connected devices such as wearable devices and smart homes. Palo Alto Networks supports automatic prevention of vulnerability profiles and blocks technique-based exploit attacks while preventing operating system kernel exploitation. The recently launched Traps 4.0 operates big data based on file hashes to block known malware attacks, and for unknown attacks, it automatically generates signatures that can be quickly blocked within five minutes and deploys them to Traps. Additionally, by leveraging machine learning, it detects ransomware identified on external security platforms, reflects it locally, and immediately blocks malicious behavior.

Databricks Unveils Open AI Security Monitoring 'Lakewatch'
데이터브릭스가 3월 24일 개방형 에이전틱 SIEM ‘레이크워치’를 공개하며 보안 시장에 진입했다. 이 제품은 보안, IT, 비즈니스 데이터를 단일 환경에서 통합 분석해 AI 기반 위협 탐지와 조사를 지원하는 것이 핵심이다. 회사는 고비용 구조 때문에 일부 데이터를 포기해온 기존 보안관제의 한계를 줄이고, 개방형 형식과 생태계를 바탕으로 대규모 데이터 분석과 자동화를 가능하게 한다고 설명했다. 레이크워치는 현재 프라이빗 프리뷰로 제공되며, 어도비와 드롭박스 등이 초기 고객으로 언급됐다. 데이터브릭스는 앤트로픽과 협력을 확대하고 안티매터, SiftD.ai 인수도 함께 발표했다.
