Red Hat Hosts Red Hat Forum Seoul 2017
Published2017.09.20 14:25Red Hat has announced details regarding 'Red Hat Forum APAC 2017,' the industry's largest annual open source technology event held in the Asia-Pacific region. Starting in Bangalore, India in September, the Red Hat Forum will take place in 13 major cities across the Asia-Pacific region, with over 6,000 industry experts expected to attend, and will be held in Seoul on November 2.
Open source transforms industries based on the collaboration of customers, partners, and developers, enabling companies to accelerate innovation. This year's Red Hat Forum will continue the theme "The Impact of Individuals," which began at Red Hat Summit 2017 in Boston last May, by providing a platform to recognize and encourage individuals who have led change and moved one step ahead toward the future. These individuals have made significant contributions to achieving important advancements across all relevant industries, including finance, government, and healthcare.
At this event, Red Hat's key customers and partners will gather to discuss industry trends, success stories, and the latest open source technologies. Time was also arranged for participants to share ideas, engage in meaningful discussions, and network with Red Hat as well as technology partners.
In particular, the Red Hat Forum plans to present the Red Hat Innovation Award APAC to customers who have transformed their businesses with Red Hat solutions. This award is given to customers who have leveraged open source to solve challenges in the IT industry, modernize IT, accelerate innovation, and achieve greater agility and efficiency.
Red Hat Forum Seoul 2017 , held in Korea, will take place on November 2 at the InterContinental Hotel COEX in Seoul, featuring a total of 2 tracks and 17 sessions. Beginning with opening remarks by Ham Jae-kyung, President of Red Hat Korea, key Red Hat executives, analysts, customers, and partners are scheduled to discuss the latest open source technology trends and Red Hat's extensive solution portfolio, which encompasses open hybrid cloud, DevOps, management, containers, and big data.

Red Hat announced that it has acquired the assets and technology of Permabit Technology Corporation, a software provider specializing in data deduplication, compression, and thin provisioning. By combining the data deduplication and compression capabilities of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Permabit, Red Hat is now able to provide more efficient storage functionality and support enterprises' digital transformation more effectively. As more and more enterprises seek to gain the efficiency benefits offered by digital technologies such as Linux containers and cloud computing, new storage solutions are required beyond existing storage technologies to power these services and store data. Storage efficiency is a core competency capable of meeting these requirements, and hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI), which combines storage and compute in a single x86 server, also requires such capabilities.

Public Institutions 'Moving Away from Windows to Open Source OS'
The Military Manpower Administration (MMA) collaborated with the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) to introduce an open-source operating system (OS). As a result, they were able to reduce license purchase costs and improve PC stability. This was necessary because the military was still using an OS with discontinued technical support, which presented security vulnerabilities when handling military fitness assessment results, psychological tests, and military administrative data. As the first public institution to adopt an open-source OS, the MMA analyzed open-source operating systems suitable for psychological testing. The Ministry of Science and ICT and NIPA developed evaluation criteria in consultation with assessment agencies to conduct security reviews. As a result, they selected Ubuntu, which is based on Debian Linux. The selection was based on highly favorable evaluations of stable distribution releases, user convenience, and stable operation in low-specification environments.

SalePoint Signs Multi-Year Partnership Agreement with AWS… Promoting Identity Security that Integrates Even AI Agents

Databricks Unveils Open AI Security Monitoring 'Lakewatch'
Databricks entered the security market on March 24 by unveiling LakeWatch, an open-source agentic SIEM. The core functionality of this product is to integrate and analyze security, IT, and business data in a single environment to support AI-based threat detection and investigation. The company explained that it reduces the limitations of existing security operations centers, which have had to forgo some data due to high cost structures, and enables large-scale data analysis and automation based on open formats and ecosystems. LakeWatch is currently offered as a private preview, with Adobe and Dropbox mentioned as early customers. Databricks also announced an expanded partnership with Anthropic as well as the acquisition of Antimatter and SiftD.ai.
