Utilizing domestically produced equipment, we can support over 200 companies simultaneously.

The Ministry of Science and ICT opened the 'HPC (High Performance Computing) Innovation Hub' on the 2nd floor of the Pangyo Enterprise Support Hub on September 19th and held a ceremony to unveil the new facility, enabling small and medium-sized enterprises to more easily utilize high-performance computing equipment.

The HPC Innovation Hub was built this year using domestically produced equipment after detailed planning in 2016, with a total capacity of 200TF (200 teraflops: 200 trillion calculations per second), and can support approximately 200 companies simultaneously.

The HPC Innovation Hub will support capacity building by providing infrastructure that allows small and medium-sized enterprises to easily utilize high-performance computing (HPC) and training for companies utilizing it, to enhance their competitiveness.

Through this, small and medium-sized enterprises are expected to be able to shorten the time required for product development and improve performance through virtual experiments from product design to manufacturing.

In addition, it is expected that by building high-performance computing equipment with servers and storage produced by domestic small and medium-sized enterprises, the reliability of domestic equipment will be increased and its image will be improved, contributing to increased demand in the future.

The HPC Innovation Hub plans to conduct stability testing and pilot services by the end of this year and launch official services next year.

Yang Hwan-jeong, Director of the Information and Communication Policy Bureau of the Ministry of Science and ICT, said, “As the demand for high-performance computing is increasing due to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, it is fortunate that we are able to support small and medium-sized enterprises by establishing a high-performance computing innovation hub in a timely manner.”We will actively support small businesses to ensure they do not experience any inconvenience in using the service,” he said.
