Garmin has launched the Edge 1030, its flagship GPS cycling computer, along with the Varia UT800 smart headlight.

The new Edge 1030 features an enlarged 3.5-inch high-resolution touchscreen display compared to previous models. It automatically adjusts screen brightness for seamless use regardless of day or night conditions. GPS and GLONASS signal reception and altimeter sensor functions are optimized to provide ride data such as distance, speed, and elevation.

The Edge 1030's navigation capabilities have been significantly enhanced by analyzing billions of miles of ride data accumulated in Garmin Connect. The newly added Trendline feature recommends popular on-road and off-road routes to riders, and utilizes pre-loaded map information to enhance useful functions such as turn-by-turn guidance and hazard warnings. Additionally, by inputting desired riding distance and departure direction, the device generates three round-trip route options centered on the current location. The provision of estimated riding time, elevation, and difficulty level information allows users to select the most suitable route.

The newly added rider-to-rider feature enables sending pre-saved messages to fellow riders and allows checking incoming calls and messages, eliminating the need to take out a phone while riding. The device also includes incident detection that transmits the user's location to registered emergency contacts in real-time during emergencies, ensuring safe riding.

Design and battery performance have been improved for a more comfortable riding experience. The mount style has been changed to flush mount and the Edge 1030 is positioned at the same height as the handlebar, improving visual convenience and safety. Battery life reaches up to 20 hours maximum, and can be extended to up to 40 hours with the Garmin Charge auxiliary battery.

The TrainingPeaks Connect IQ app and Best Bike Split app embedded in the Edge 1030 handle everything from setting fitness goals and establishing riding plans to measuring real-time workout status, analyzing race performance post-ride, and collecting metrics. By using the TrainingPeaks Connect IQ app to input daily fitness goals, real-time guidance enables achievement of set workout intensity targets and maintenance of interval times, and after riding concludes, results can be synchronized for detailed analysis and measurement. The Best Bike Split app assists riders in establishing optimal racing plans by considering rider capability and physical condition.

Along with the Edge 1030 launch, the Varia UT800 smart headlight, the flagship product of bicycle headlights, provides a safer cycling environment. With a maximum brightness of 800 lumens sustainable for 1.5 hours, brightness automatically adjusts according to road lighting brightness and riding speed.

The Varia UT800 supports five light modes: high, medium, low, night, and daytime flash, and at maximum power during daytime use can be seen from over 1 mile away.
