Promotion of improving farmers' quality of life and increasing farm household income, expansion to six villages by next year

The first pilot village for the rural ICT convergence project, which LG Uplus is promoting to improve the quality of life for farmers and increase farm income, has been established.

LG Uplus announced on the 22nd that it has selected Unhak 1-ri, Mureungdowon-myeon, Yeongwol-gun, Gangwon-do (hereinafter Unhak 1-ri) as the first pilot village for an ICT convergence project that supports the advancement of residential environments using ICT technology and infrastructure, and held a ceremony at the village hall to establish the village.

In Unhak 1-ri village, the U+ Village Broadcasting System and U+tv Kids' World service have been established as a 'residential environment enhancement' village among the ICT convergence projects being promoted in six core areas.

In addition, rural-tailored ICT services utilizing Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies such as the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence will be provided, reflecting the needs and lifestyles of the residents of Unhak 1-ri.

The U+ Village Broadcasting System recently established in Unhak 1-ri Village is a service that transmits messages to wireless speakers in each household via the LTE network when the village head calls a designated phone number (012-XXX-XXXX). It has the advantage of allowing residents to conveniently broadcast necessary announcements anytime and anywhere, and to clearly deliver external broadcast messages even to homes where they cannot hear well.

In addition, considering the demographic characteristics of Unhak 1-ri, where the proportion of children and adolescents is higher than in other rural villages and the population returning to rural areas accounts for 70% of the total, the U+tv Kids' World service is provided to support children in using high-quality play and learning content.



LG Uplus is working to improve the quality of life for farmers and agriculturalThe ICT convergence project, which is being promoted in six areas to increase household income—smart agriculture management, residential environment advancement, healthcare, disaster detection and prevention, discovery of experience programs, and securing learning content—is being carried out sequentially, divided into short-term and mid-to-long-term plans according to the characteristics of each area.

To create a 'safer rural community,' advanced ICT technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and control systems will be applied to establish a sensor-based natural disaster detection system capable of responding to natural disasters like typhoons and floods, a system for monitoring and blocking the access of harmful animals, and a system that detects crop theft via video analysis CCTV and transmits the relevant footage to nearby police substations.

In addition, we will introduce a system capable of pre-diagnosing agricultural machinery to detect breakdowns and monitoring them in real time, and support the creation of a "more prosperous rural community" by establishing a smart agricultural environment, including smart farms and agricultural drones, to improve farm income.

Unhak 1-ri, which was established as the first pilot village this time, is a village in the 'advanced residential environment' category where home automation, home security, and village broadcasting systems are applied to provide both convenience and stability in daily life for a 'more convenient rural community.'

LG Uplus demonstrated the delivery of goods to elderly people living alone using the nation's first LTE drone cloud control system to commemorate the opening of Unhak 1-ri, the first pilot village for the ICT convergence project.

In addition, for the first time in the world, video filmed by a drone during the demonstration could be viewed in real-time on LG Uplus IPTV.

This demonstration consisted of an LTE drone carrying 3kg of daily necessities and winter supplies from Sansan Garden in Unhak 1-ri, the starting point. The LTE drone took off from the starting point, flew 1.8km for 8 minutes, and landed safely in the yard of Grandmother Kim Soon-ja's house.

Meanwhile, LG Uplus and NH Nonghyup plan to transform a total of six villages into ICT convergence smart rural communities by 2018, starting with Unhak 1-ri, the first pilot village.
