Vietnam's state-owned telecom VNPT completes PoC with Wind River platform through NFV strategy
Published2017.11.02 16:58Wind River announced that Vietnam's state-owned telecommunications enterprise VNPT Technology (Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Corporation) has completed a proof-of-concept (PoC) program by adopting Wind River's network virtualization platform, 'Wind River Titanium Cloud,' as part of a long-term strategy for network function virtualization (NFV).
VNPT undertook this project to realize the business potential and operational efficiency promised by virtualization, and during the process of reviewing technical requirements necessary to launch new business use cases and NFV, the company focused on Wind River's NFV infrastructure platform. The primary objective that VNPT set for this PoC was to comprehensively test Titanium Cloud technology and verify whether it could provide infrastructure suitable for future NFV implementation.
The test lab built jointly by VNPT and Wind River incorporates a simulated network within a data center environment, and rigorous performance testing was conducted through various speeds and types of traffic provided by traffic generators.
NFV is expected to enhance service agility while accelerating the speed of building new high-value-added services. Additionally, VNPT recognized that the high level of service uptime that customers naturally expect is a non-negotiable factor. Therefore, the company needed confidence that its next-generation virtualization service would guarantee carrier-grade reliability. Considering these critical requirements, the capability of the Titanium Cloud platform to ensure 6×9 (99.9999 percent) availability was determined to be a primary reason to initiate this PoC.
From the perspective of reducing operational costs, VNPT expects to replace traditional vertically integrated hardware-based products with flexible software solutions that enable separation and interoperability among various suppliers. Flexibility based on open standards and interoperability/compatibility with other software elements were also decisive factors that led VNPT Technology to select the Titanium Cloud platform.
Ly Quoc Chinh, CTO of VNPT Technology, said: "It is very important to innovate the network in the future and provide better services to customers through NFV technology, but the most critical requirement is to maintain service uptime, so telecommunications operators cannot compromise on carrier-grade reliability. Against this background, Wind River was a natural choice in driving the transition to NFV."

Wind River Launches Analytics Software for Processing Data on Devices Without the Cloud
Wind River announced the expansion of its real-time operating system (RTOS) VxWorks IoT portfolio optimized to meet market demands by launching 'AXON Predict Analytics for VxWorks,' a real-time analytics solution that provides device analytics capabilities. Through this new product that can be applied alongside Wind River's RTOS (real-time embedded OS) VxWorks, developers can embed analytics functionality deployed on devices into applications, extracting high-volume streaming data on processes and products and processing that data in real-time to enhance process efficiency. Additionally, it provides methods to leverage predictive analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. Since AXON Predict Analytics solution processes data directly on the device without cloud connectivity, a path has now opened to manage critical data at the network edge through visual edge analytics software, enabling real-time automatic responses.

Databricks Unveils Open AI Security Monitoring 'Lakewatch'
Databricks entered the security market on March 24 by unveiling LakeWatch, an open-source agentic SIEM. The core functionality of this product is to integrate and analyze security, IT, and business data in a single environment to support AI-based threat detection and investigation.
