Processing 46 Times More Data 10 Times Faster Than Existing Switches

LG Uplus announced that it has jointly developed with Ubiquos, a domestic equipment manufacturer, a '100G (Giga) switch' for 5G, the first of its kind in Korea, capable of transmitting high-capacity data traffic 46 times greater than existing LTE equipment at 10 times faster speeds.

The 100G switch is equipment that transfers data traffic between 5G wireless base stations and wired networks. It can process up to 3.6Tb (Terabit) of high-capacity data at once and can deliver a single data packet in just 0.12ms, enabling the transmission of a 2GB movie-sized traffic volume in just 0.16 seconds.

According to LG Uplus, the newly developed switch processes 46 times more data 10 times faster than existing switches currently used in LTE networks, while maintaining the same equipment size and power consumption as existing equipment.

When SDN, one of the core technologies for next-generation networks, is additionally applied to this equipment, various types of service traffic such as general data, IPTV, and control data requiring precise remote control like autonomous vehicles can be divided into multiple virtual networks (Network Slicing) for transmission, thereby significantly enhancing traffic processing efficiency.

Meanwhile, large-capacity switch equipment is evaluated as an essential element for implementing core 5G network performance such as ultra-high-speed downloads of 20Gbps or higher and response speeds 10 times faster.

LG Uplus plans to simultaneously construct 100G switches along with 5G wireless base stations next year to provide high-quality 5G services in an environment of rapidly increasing traffic from the development of high-capacity services, while also providing gigabit internet service at speeds of up to 10Gbps.
