Establishment of 5G Task Force, AI Business Division Placed Directly Under CEO

LG U+ Vice Chairman Kwon Young-soo carried out organizational restructuring alongside executive appointments and encouraged employees through a CEO message stating, "The time has come to make our move. We must secure a decisive victory in 5G and AI fields, which will form the foundation of our future competitiveness."

Vice Chairman Kwon said this in an email to employees on the day, noting "2018 will mark the full-scale competition in future industries such as 5G and AI, and fierce competition among market players is anticipated. We have decided to reorganize our structure for thorough future preparation."

In this organizational restructuring, LG U+ will establish a 5G Task Force to concentrate company-wide capabilities to lead the 5G era, and will place the AI Business Division directly under the CEO to strengthen the driving force of overall AI business operations.

Regarding the establishment of the 5G Task Force, Vice Chairman Kwon said, "We are establishing the 5G Task Force to make thorough preparations so that we can overwhelm competitors in 5G as well." He emphasized, "We will concentrate all company-wide capabilities to carefully review frequency strategy development, coverage investment, and equipment vendor selection, and will thoroughly prepare to provide customers with differentiated, high-quality 5G services."

Regarding the AI Business Division's placement directly under the CEO, he stated, "Smooth communication and collaboration with Home·Media, IoT, and Enterprise divisions, which are closely related to AI, is very important. By placing the AI Business Division directly under the CEO to operate independently, we have enabled close collaboration with each division and rapid communication."

He continued, "We have organized the structure to carry out 5G and AI businesses that will be responsible for our future competitiveness, and all that remains is to run hard. Let all divisions, all dedicated organizations, and all employees unite as one and prepare thoroughly."

Finally, Vice Chairman Kwon said, "If there is sincere dedication and earnest determination to deliver greater value, trust, and satisfaction to customers and to be reborn as a leading company, we will surely achieve the dream of a number-one U+." Meanwhile, LG U+ announced in executive appointments on the 30th of last month that Hyun Joon-yong, Executive Director (currently Head of AI Service Business Division, FC Division), will head the AI Business Division, and Choi Joo-sik, Senior Vice President (currently Head of FC Division), will head the 5G Task Force.
