The Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Information Society Agency unveiled the latest version (PaaS-TA 3.0) of the open cloud platform 'PaaS-TA,' which is not dependent on specific infrastructure, through the hosting of 'PaaS-TA PUB (platform-user bridge) Day.'

Along with the public briefing on PaaS-TA 3.0, a business agreement was also concluded between the NIA and institutions adopting PaaS-TA. TmaxSoft, a software (SW) specialist, plans to join forces to foster a domestic cloud application ecosystem by jointly developing cloud service technologies and development environments for packaged SW, while Korea University Anam Hospital will do the same by developing a medical-specialized platform utilizing PaaS-TA.

PaaS-TA 3.0 is the first result of the second phase of research and development ('17.3–'19.12) launched this year. It has been advanced into a platform optimized for cloud-based application software development and utilization, and is expected to enhance the execution capabilities of PaaS-TA, which is actually being applied in various fields.

As global leading companies such as Amazon, Google, and IBM are vying to enter the cloud platform market based on their rich application service ecosystems and are building and expanding ecosystems centered on their own platforms, the Ministry of Science and ICT and NIA plan to sign business agreements with leading domestic software companies and supply PaaS-TA to various fields through joint research, and support them in securing global leadership in their respective fields based on specialized platforms.

Korea University Anam Hospital plans to establish and expand a specialized platform for the medical sector in conjunction with the development of a PaaS-TA-based Precision Health Information System (P-HIS). TmaxSoft plans to support the development of various application software based on PaaS-TA and provide them directly to customers.

In addition, we plan to establish a joint research framework with companies possessing advanced technologies essential for the cloud, such as Honeycomb (Big Data/AI), Penta Security (Security), Altibase (DBMS), Agados (Development Tools), Jam2in (DB Cache), and AtoreRich (SDN), and cooperate to enable PaaS-TA to rapidly adopt the latest technologies.

Noh Kyung-won, Director General of Software Policy at the Ministry of Science and ICT, stated, “As the way information resources are utilized shifts to the cloud, PaaS-TA 3.0 will not only help transform existing software into cloud services but also facilitate the integration of new technologies such as the Internet of Things, big data, and artificial intelligence.” He added, “The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to support the adoption of cloud services in all public and private sectors by promoting ‘All@Cloud’ to integrate cloud technology into all fields.”
