Production certification up to ASIL-D level parts, the highest level of functional safety

LG Electronics has received international certification for the highest level of functional safety in its autonomous vehicle parts business.

LG Electronics' VC (Vehicle Components) Division has received ISO26262 process certification for its 'autonomous vehicle components' and 'vehicle media components' businesses from global certification agency 'TUV Rheinland'.

ISO26262 process certification is a standard specification established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for all stages of product design, development, and production to ensure ‘functional safety’ that prevents accidents caused by automobile part failure.

This certification has become a mandatory certification in the automotive parts industry as global automakers increasingly require it as a prerequisite for parts supply. LG Electronics already received this certification for its electric vehicle parts business in 2014.

With this certification, LG Electronics has expanded the scope of its functional safety certification to include autonomous vehicle components such as ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) cameras, infotainment systems, and vehicle displays, as well as vehicle media components. This is to proactively respond to automakers’ demands for functional stability in autonomous vehicle parts.

In addition, it has received development process certification that can produce parts up to ASIL (Automotive Safety Integrity Level)-D, the highest level of functional safety. This is the most stringent level that manages failures that can lead to accidents to less than one per 100 million hours of continuous use.

In addition, by receiving process certification for all stages of development from design to production, rather than simply certification limited to specific parts, all of LG Electronics' electrical components developed according to this process now meet the ISO26262 standard.
