Semicon Korea 2018, where you can see equipment and materials companies leading the global semiconductor industry all in one place, opened its doors on the 31st.
Running for three days from the 31st through February 2nd at COEX, Semicon covers not only semiconductors but the entire industry including printed electronics, LED, MEMS, PV, sensors, and photonics. This year features 436 companies with 1,913 exhibition booths.
Cho Hyun-dae, president of Korea SEMI, stated his aspirations at the opening ceremony, saying "Under the theme of 'CONNECT, INNOVATE, COLLABORATE,' we will provide a global supply chain for the semiconductor industry and serve as a business platform."
The keynote speeches for this event will feature Samsung Electronics Vice President Kang Ho-gyu, IBM Fellow Evangelos Eleftheriou, Imec Senior Vice President Ann Steugen, and Xilinx CTO Ivo Bolzen as speakers, presenting various perspectives on future semiconductor applications.
The event will continue with symposiums and seminars featuring 100 speakers over two days. The SEMI Technology Symposium (STS) divides the entire semiconductor process into six categories—lithography, dielectrics, devices, etching, cleaning, CMO, and packaging—covering all process technologies. A market seminar conference is also scheduled where you can see trends in the equipment and materials market.
This year will also feature the Smart Automotive Forum and Smart Manufacturing Forum. Recognizing collaboration between the automotive and semiconductor industries as essential for realizing fully autonomous vehicles, the forums will explore the role and changes of semiconductors in the automotive market. Additionally, the latest trends in intelligent manufacturing fields such as the Internet of Things, cloud computing, big data, machine learning, and artificial intelligence—new applications in another semiconductor market—will be shared. Furthermore, SEMI international standards meetings in the domestic semiconductor and FPD sectors will be held during the exhibition period.
Buyer consultation sessions have been arranged to help companies participating in Semicon Korea create new business opportunities and expand overseas. This is a one-on-one business matching program. Chip makers and equipment companies participating as corporate buyers this year—△Samsung Electronics, △SK Hynix, △Intel, △Micron, △Sony, △Toshiba, and △Lam Research—are expected to hold meetings with approximately 100 companies.

A glance at the latest semiconductor technology trends
A showcase presenting the latest semiconductor technology trends at a glance is being held. The Korea Semiconductor Industry Association announced on the 17th that it will host the "19th Semiconductor Exhibition (SEDEX, SEmiconDuctor EXhibition)" at Seoul COEX. The Semiconductor Exhibition (SEDEX) is an event organized by the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association and is held during the same period as the Korea Electronics Exhibition and Korea Display Industry Exhibition under the collective title "Korea Electronics Industry Exhibition." The Semiconductor Exhibition will feature 180 companies across all sectors comprising the semiconductor industry ecosystem, including semiconductor equipment, materials, components, design, materials, and facilities companies, led by Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, participating with 517 booths. SEMI, South Korea Semiconductor Equipment Market Grows 132.6% Year-over-Year, Ranks First in Sales
The Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) announced global semiconductor equipment shipments for 2017 at SEMICON Japan. Global semiconductor equipment sales in 2017 are projected at $55.9 billion, representing a 35.6% increase from the previous high of $47.7 billion achieved in 2000. For 2018, sales are expected to reach $60.1 billion, 7.5% higher than 2017, suggesting another record will be broken following 2017. SEMI forecasts that wafer processing equipment will increase 37.5% to $45.0 billion in 2017, while other front-end equipment such as fab facilities, wafer manufacturing, masks and reticles will increase 45.8% to $2.6 billion. Assembly and packaging equipment is projected to increase 25.8% to $3.8 billion, and test equipment is expected to increase 22% to $4.5 billion.

Xilinx Participates in 'Semicon Korea 2018' with Keynote Speech
Xilinx announced that Ivo Bolsens, Senior Vice President and CTO, will attend and deliver a keynote address at 'SEMICON Korea 2018' to be held at Seoul COEX from January 31st to February 2nd.
