OnSemiconductor Unveils High-Resolution 35mm CCD Image Sensor
Published2018.03.07 15:12OnSemiconductor has introduced the KAI-43140, a 43-megapixel (MP) high-resolution 35mm optical format charge-coupled device (CCD) image sensor, expanding its capabilities in high-resolution industrial imaging solutions.
The KAI-43140 is well-suited for applications requiring ultra-high-resolution image capture and excellent image uniformity, such as final inspection of high-definition (HD) and ultra-high-definition (UHD) flat panel displays and aerial photography.
Utilizing 4.5 micrometer (µm) interline transfer CCD pixels, the KAI-43140 improves resolution by 50% compared to the conventional 5.5 µm design while maintaining essential imaging performance. Featuring a true electrical global shutter, this device supports a maximum full-resolution frame rate of 4 FPS using flexible 1, 2, or 4 output readout architecture. The KAI-43140 shares identical packaging and pin definitions with the widely used 29 MP KAI-29050 and KAI-29052 image sensors, enabling integration into existing camera designs with only minor electrical modifications. This allows for maintaining compatibility with existing camera and lens configurations while accelerating new device launch timelines.

The KAI-43140 delivers high-quality, high-resolution image capture with excellent uniformity over extended exposure times, a critical capability for applications such as flat panel inspection that must keep pace with continuously advancing display resolutions. Additionally, the KAI-43140 enables surveillance and aerial imaging systems. This allows for capturing more detailed images or capturing from higher altitudes, reducing acquisition time and costs.
Herb Erhardt, Vice President and General Manager of Industrial Solutions at OnSemiconductor's Image Sensor Group, stated, "Many industrial imaging applications require image uniformity that can currently only be achieved with CCD technology. At the same time, high resolution is required, so continued pixel development work is necessary." He added, "With the KAI-43140, camera manufacturers and end users can significantly expand their high-resolution image capture capabilities without compromising the image quality required for their applications."

ON Semiconductor Unveils SiC Diode Family with High Power Density and Low Cost
On Semiconductor has expanded its SiC diode product portfolio by unveiling a new family of 650V silicon carbide (SiC) Schottky diodes. The silicon carbide technology incorporated into these diodes provides switching functionality with low power losses and simplified parallel operation between devices. The newly launched 650V SiC diode family includes surface mount and through-hole package options capable of delivering output currents from 6A (amperes) to 50A. This diode family features zero reverse recovery charge, low forward voltage, stable current characteristics unaffected by temperature, high surge capability, and positive temperature coefficient characteristics. The new diode family targets engineers designing PFC and boost converters for applications including solar photovoltaic inverters, chargers for electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles, telecom power supplies, and data center power supply units.
