ST and Sigfox collaborate to enhance device connectivity
Published2018.03.19 10:52STMicroelectronics (ST) and Sigfox have announced that they have entered into an agreement to expand support and demand for connected devices across diverse applications. Applications include supply chain management, building and equipment maintenance, water and gas metering, security, transportation, agriculture, mining, and home automation. Sigfox networking software will be added to ST's development tools to enable developers to rapidly commercialize LPWAN-based products and solutions.
Sigfox networking software will be included and supplied in ST's MCU software packages with STM32 tool compatibility. This is expected to accelerate customers' ability to adopt Sigfox as the standard for LPWAN.
Through this agreement, ST's technology and product portfolio suited to Sigfox technology and tool compatibility with STM32 will be supported. This includes the high-performance ultra-low-power sub-GHz wireless transceiver S2-LP and the highly secure Sigfox-compatible security chip STSAFE-A1SX, as well as various motion, environmental, and audio sensors and power management devices.

Canston Launches 2-Channel Bluetooth Speaker S3BT STERLING
Canston Acoustics has launched the S3BT Sterling Bluetooth 2-channel speaker. This product allows users to freely switch between wired and wireless connectivity as needed. STM-Innogration LDMOS Technology License Agreement Concluded
STMicroelectronics (ST) announced that it has entered into an agreement with Innogration Technologies, a Chinese fabless semiconductor company, regarding LDMOS RF power technology. LDMOS devices integrate short conduction channels and high breakdown voltage, making them suitable not only for power amplifiers for commercial and industrial systems but also for RF power amplifiers used in base stations for wireless communication systems. Through this agreement with Innogration, ST has expanded the range of applications that can be supported by LDMOS technology.

[EVKIT] 'STM32L4+ Discovery Kit' Equipped with Low Power, GUI, and Security

Through Weekly EVKIT, Kim Doo-hyung, manager at ST, presented the features and demonstration of the STM32L4+ Discovery Kit. We heard detailed information about the STM32L4+ MCU and Discovery Kit, which despite its low power consumption delivers high performance and was validated globally after being introduced at CES 2018. The demonstration also provided an opportunity to enhance understanding among developers and many others. - Could you explain the characteristics of the STM32L4+ Discovery Kit, which is mainly used in smart applications? Battery-powered smart applications occupy a significant share in the market, making energy-efficient, low-power design necessary. As a low-power MCU, the STM32L4+ received high scores in ULPBench, and its maximum operating frequency is 120MHz, representing a 50% improvement compared to the STM32L4. It also provides communication interfaces such as UART, I2C, SPI, USB, and LPTimer, LPUART, MIPI DSI, parallel for TFT LCD, and Octo-SPI. - What role does the Chrome-ART Accelerator embedded with Enhanced Graphic in the round UI play? The Chrome-ART accelerator supports blending two images and pixel format conversion. For this purpose, it provides data copy functionality and anti-aliasing management. Through this, it reduces CPU load when performing 2D graphic operations. Additionally, the STM32L4+ includes Chrom-GRC, an MMU (graphics memory management unit) that enables appropriate memory usage according to display type. For example, when designing an application that supports circular displays like a smart band, resources use rectangular images. In this case, when displaying output, the area outside the circle wastes only memory resources. However, Chrom-GRC copies the rectangular resource image to virtual memory and stores only the portion visible on the circular display in actual memory, allowing approximately 20% savings in memory resources.
