UR Academy's 9 Modules Enable Acquisition of Cobot Fundamentals and Technology
Lowers Automation Barriers and Reduces Integration Time and Costs

Universal Robots (UR), which achieved 72% sales growth compared to the previous year, has set its growth target at 50% this year and is moving to capture the Korean market. The company plans to strengthen its services and solutions by launching the Korean version of 'Universal Robots Academy,' a free online robot education program.

Universal Robots participated in 'Automation World 2018' held at COEX starting on the 28th, introducing Universal Robots Plus and UR Academy. Universal Robots Plus is a solution that provides accessories, end-effectors, and software solutions that maximize the capabilities of each collaborative robot unit when connected to the cobot main body. Using UR Plus, it is possible to establish a work environment that shortens development time and reduces costs.

UR Academy, which includes free online learning modules, was developed to lower automation barriers and reduce integration time and costs. Anyone who wants to learn the concept of collaborative robots can use it.

Tsuyoshi Yamane, General Manager of the Northeast Asia Region, stated, "Universal Robots has been focusing on developing and discovering partners. We are also providing training by region. While awareness of collaborative robots (cobots) has increased significantly, there are still areas that need improvement. Through UR Academy, we aim to make it easy for anyone who wants to learn about cobots, not just our partner companies, to access the program."

According to the International Federation of Robotics, Korea's robot market ranks third after China and Japan. Sakari Kuikka, General Manager of Asia-Pacific, said, "The cobot market has great growth potential, and so does the Korean market. We will focus on promoting cobots in Korea so that we can achieve our sales growth targets."

UR Academy offers a total of 6 module lectures, where users can learn various content including how to install end-effectors and how to interact sensors and external devices. Even beginners who know little about robots can easily acquire core foundational knowledge and technical skills used in actual robot work environments. Previously, the program was only available in English, Spanish, German, Chinese, and French, but this year the Korean version was launched to enhance convenience for domestic users. Yongsang Lee, Korea Head, explained, "Universal Robots' motto is to create automation solutions that all customers can use. It is a program used by those who build systems using robots, students, and partner companies alike. All modules can be completed in just 87 minutes. We have added 3 additional modules to the original 6 modules. We plan to continuously add more modules."

He continued, "Industrial robots previously could only be used by large corporations, but this is a solution that makes it easy for small and medium-sized enterprises to use them as well. Cobots handle the so-called 3D work—dirty, difficult, and dangerous jobs—so workers can use their time more efficiently. We hope that many people will participate in cobot training to revitalize the market."
