'Cola' Launched, Allowing You to Enjoy T Phone with AR

SK Telecom is launching 'Cola,' a service that allows users to enjoy augmented reality video calls. 'Cola' is a portmanteau of 'call,' meaning to make a phone call, and 'AR,' meaning augmented reality. Users of 'Cola' can apply 35 different decoration features powered by AR technology while making video calls.
For example, you can apply a 'doll' theme when a couple makes a video call. The background of the call screen changes into a box filled with dolls. You can also superimpose your girlfriend's or boyfriend's face onto a teddy bear.
'Cola' also offers features to customize the face. Users can superimpose items such as animal ears and headbands onto their own faces. Additionally, they can enhance their appearance by adjusting eye size, jawline, and skin tone.

Users can enjoy high-definition video calls through 'Cola'. 'Cola' provides HD-quality video calls (1280*720 pixels). Compared to existing video calls provided by smartphone manufacturers, the resolution is about four times higher, allowing you to enjoy clearer calls.
'Cola' offers various call screen layout features in addition to the existing calling method, where the other person's face fills the entire screen and the user's face appears small at the top. 'Cola' users can split the screen equally between the other person's face and their own face. Screen layouts can also be selected in vertical, horizontal, or diagonal directions.
It also includes features to save and share the video call screen. Simply touch the circular button at the bottom of the screen during a call. A short touch saves it as a photo, while a long touch saves it as a GIF. The saved files can be shared directly to social media via the app's features.
'Cola' is available to customers of all carriers through the 'T Phone' app. Existing 'T Phone' users can access it via an app update, while customers who do not use 'T Phone' can download and use it from the Google Play Store or App Store.
The monthly active users (MAU) of 'T Phone' surpassed 10 million in March of this year. It became the second service to exceed 10 million monthly users, following T Map.
'Cola' also supports video calls between iPhone and Android users. This is because, unlike conventional video calls, it is conducted via data communication. When using 'Cola', data is consumed instead of deducting from your existing video call allowance. Approximately 10MB is consumed per minute of talk.
As a launch promotion, SK Telecom users can use the 'Cola' service without using up data for six months from April 2 to September 30.
An online event will also be held from April 5 to 13. You can instantly check if you have won by accessing the event page through the banner in 'T Phone' and pressing the 'Make Video Call' button. Prizes include VIPS meal vouchers for two (200 winners) and Starbucks Heart Pie & Drink sets (2,000 winners).

SKT Takes Care of the Safety of 2G Phone Customers Who Cannot Receive Disaster Text Messages
SK Telecom is launching a mobile phone replacement support campaign in cooperation with the government, targeting 590,000 2G phone customers who cannot receive emergency text messages. This is being implemented in response to the government's request to enhance national safety, with an initial six-month implementation period. The period can be extended as needed in the future. When 2G phone customers unable to receive emergency text messages switch to one of six LTE phones designated for the campaign, SK Telecom will provide additional subsidies and allow the purchase of the LTE phone at zero device cost. The six LTE phone models were selected based on similar form factors and features, taking into consideration that 2G phone customers primarily use foldable phones and feature phones. Additionally, SK Telecom is exceptionally allowing 2G phone customers switching to LTE phones to subscribe to seven 2G rate plans, enabling them to continue using their services at the existing rate level. After subscription, customers can continue using the plan unless they change it. Considering that 2G rate plans do not include basic data allowances, a data blocking function is applied by default to prevent unwanted data charges. Customers wishing to use data can either disable the data blocking function or subscribe to an LTE rate plan.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK Telecom announced that it applied an AI-based network operation system for the first time at a large-scale K-pop concert held in the Gwanghwamun area of Seoul on March 21st, managing communication quality throughout the event. Mobile data usage during the three hours before and after the concert reached 12.15TB, approximately doubling compared to the same time slot the previous weekend. SK Telecom monitored traffic using the AI system 'A-One' in five-minute and 50-meter units to respond to potential overload situations, while also operating temporary communication facilities and on-site personnel in parallel. This case is interpreted as confirmation of the practical applicability of AI-based autonomous network operation in an environment where demand from dense events and foreign users increases simultaneously.
