LG Uplus to Build Smart City at Yongsan Electronics Mart
Published2018.04.03 14:00LG Uplus announced that it has decided to cooperate mutually with 15 organizations including Seoul City and Yongsan-gu on the urban regeneration project in the Yongsan Electronics Mart area in Seoul.
The urban regeneration project in the Yongsan Electronics Mart area is a project being carried out with an investment of 20 billion won by 2022 for the redevelopment of the approximately 210,000㎡ Yongsan Electronics Mart, jointly overseen by Seoul City and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, to establish the Yongsan Electronics Mart as a new industry complex cultural exchange space based on the electronics industry.
LG Uplus plans to cooperate with Seoul City's urban regeneration activation policy by actively proposing and applying IoT-based smart city solutions to contribute to the vitalization of urban regeneration in the Yongsan Electronics Mart area.
Prior to this, LG Uplus has established smart city solutions centered on the transportation sector in Seoul City, including 'traffic signal control' that supports real-time control and operation of traffic signals based on LTE communication networks, and 'bus information system' that provides real-time guidance on bus arrival times and current locations.
Kong Jun-il, Executive Vice President of LG Uplus' Corporate Division, said, "We expect that the establishment of customized smart city solutions for the Yongsan Electronics Mart area will improve convenience for merchants and visitors," and "We will make active efforts to build smart cities in Seoul City's urban regeneration project areas including the Yongsan Electronics Mart."
Meanwhile, LG Uplus has proposed urban regeneration plans through the application of smart city solutions to a total of 6 areas in Seoul—Chang 3-dong, Dobong-gu, Bulgwang 2-dong, Eunpyeong-gu, Cheonyeon/Choonghyeon-dong, Seodemun-gu, and Nangok/Nanghyang-dong, Gwanak-gu—where improvements in residential environments are needed due to aging housing stock and insufficient residential convenience facilities and infrastructure.

When disasters, accidents, or incidents occur, the 'golden time' that determines the life or death of patients and victims is critical. Over a long period, our country has recognized the importance of golden time through various large and small incidents and accidents. It has established a linked system with fire departments, police departments, disaster safety situation rooms, and services for socially vulnerable groups, operating to ensure citizen safety. Lee Young-mi, project manager of Daejeon Metropolitan City's Smart City Promotion Team, stated, "This is the inaugural service of the Smart City Integrated Platform Project, which the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has selected for 12 local governments including Seoul, Jeju Island, Yongin, and Mapo-gu this year and is promoting, and it is recognized as a best practice model for other local governments."
