Wind River, #1 in the Global RTOS Market for 9 Consecutive Years
Published2018.04.03 10:56Wind River, citing market research firm VDC Report, announced that its real-time operating system (RTOS) 'VxWorks' and commercial Linux 'Wind River Linux' have maintained the highest market share for nine consecutive years.
VDC Research recently analyzed commercial RTOS, non-real-time operating systems, and related bundled products and services in its report, “Global IoT and Embedded Operating Systems Market Survey.” According to VDC Research, Wind River accounted for 27.6% of IoT and embedded OS revenue last year, and 22.6% and 53.4% of the RTOS and commercial Linux markets, respectively.
Wind River, with its solid leadership in the embedded industry, is helping key infrastructure companies fully leverage software-defined technologies to effectively realize the potential of IoT through its end-to-end software portfolio. Wind River VxWorks is an RTOS that provides a feature-rich development environment and is a product that meets the performance, safety, and security requirements of mission-critical applications with stringent safety requirements. In addition, Wind River continues to contribute to open source projects, and through its Wind River Linux, it helps developers increase the speed of building cycles by 30% and reduce operation and maintenance costs by about 60%.
“The rapidly changing IoT/embedded OS market demands faster innovation from suppliers. Wind River’s continued leadership in the embedded OS market is a testament to its continued investment and innovation in its product portfolio,” said Roy Murdock, analyst at VDC Research.
VDC analyzed in this report that Wind River has been simplifying and streamlining its technology portfolio over the past year. Wind River integrated its five-part VxWorks Industry Portfolio into VxWorks Plus and included four Wind River Linux development profiles in its freely available core code. VDC also noted that GreenWave's real-time intelligent edge analytics and VxWorks-integrated 'Axon Predict Analytics' will further enhance the value of customers' IoT data.

Wind River to Supply VxWorks and Linux to Omron's Industrial PCs for Manufacturing Innovation

Databricks Unveils Open AI Security Monitoring 'Lakewatch'
Databricks entered the security market on March 24 by unveiling LakeWatch, an open-source agentic SIEM. The core functionality of this product is to integrate and analyze security, IT, and business data in a single environment to support AI-based threat detection and investigation. The company explained that it reduces the limitations of existing security operations centers, which have had to forgo some data due to high cost structures, and enables large-scale data analysis and automation based on open formats and ecosystems. LakeWatch is currently offered as a private preview, with Adobe and Dropbox mentioned as early customers. Databricks also announced an expanded partnership with Anthropic as well as the acquisition of Antimatter and SiftD.ai.
