KETI-KEA Initiates 'Energy-Independent IoT Industry' Ecosystem Development
Published2018.04.18 11:53The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (KETI) and the Korea Electronics Industry Association (KEA) have concluded a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the nOcean Alliance, a global leading organization in the energy harvesting technology field.
Energy-independent IoT is a technology that utilizes energy harvesting to supply power to Internet of Things devices, which are being applied in diverse real-life applications ranging from smart homes to smart factories. It is a technology that can reduce costs and time spent on maintenance such as battery replacement of IoT devices.
KETI, KEA, and the nOcean Alliance agreed on the 16th through the conclusion of a trilateral business agreement to ▲jointly conduct research and development and technical cooperation related to energy-independent IoT as well as ▲work together to promote the industry and foster a domestic ecosystem through the dissemination and expansion of energy-independent IoT technology.
Park Chung-won, President of KETI, stated, "We hope that this business agreement will serve as a catalyst to activate the domestic energy-independent IoT industry by consolidating the global network of the nOcean Alliance, the domestic enterprise network of KEA, and KETI's R&D capabilities."
Additionally, both KETI and KEA organizations launched the Energy-Independent IoT Industry Council (hereinafter 'Council') at the Sheraton Palace Hotel to activate the energy-independent technology ecosystem including energy harvesting (EH) and ultra-low-power communication.
SK Telecom serves as the chairman, and various large and medium-sized enterprises, research institutes, associations, and organizations including Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, DB Lightec, Hancom MDS, Korea Electric Power Research Institute, Korean Photonics Technology Institute, and Daegu Technopark are participating. Going forward, the Council plans to establish an operating committee and subcommittees by application field, focusing on activities such as building domestic and international cooperation networks, technical exchanges, and market activation, while continuously expanding corporate participation.
Nam In-seok, Vice Chairman of KEA overseeing the Council Secretariat, expressed his commitment, stating, "We will promote activities such as domestic and international technical cooperation, expanded cooperation between enterprises, and market activation so that the Council can be activated in a short timeframe and provide practical assistance to domestic enterprises."

KETI and Smart Factory Activation Partnership on Testing and Certification Technologies
The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (KETI) announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Public-Private Joint Smart Factory Promotion Group (KOSF) and TÜV SÜD Korea at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry for technical cooperation in smart factory testing and certification. The government has been making efforts to supply and disseminate smart factories since 2014. Currently there are approximately 5,000 smart factories, with plans to increase this to 20,000 by 2022. The goal is to elevate the current level, which is limited to production history tracking and management of specific processes or partial automation, to an advanced smart factory level capable of customized flexible production. Testing and certification is the starting point for industry activation. This is because test results on interoperability and compatibility among various products—including equipment, networks, energy, security, and other components that implement smart factories—serve as a credential enabling related companies to smoothly enter the market. However, since smart factory-related technologies are diverse and standardization efforts are underway with international standards in mind (IEC, ISO, IIC, etc.), the reality is that responding to global certification is challenging not only for SMEs but even for large enterprises.

KETI Develops Environment-Adaptive Wrap-Around View Monitoring Platform
The Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) has announced the development of a WAVM (Wrap-Around View Monitoring) platform that combines multiple camera feeds in real-time to generate customized omnidirectional video according to environmental conditions. WAVM is a technology that mounts cameras on the front, rear, left, and right of a vehicle to create video from a bird's-eye view perspective, as if someone is looking down at the vehicle from above. It is easy to understand by imagining the perspective when playing a driving game—not from the viewpoint of being inside the vehicle, but from a perspective where you can see both the vehicle and surrounding roads while driving. Because blind spots are eliminated, it is a core technology already equipped as standard on high-end vehicles.

KETI Develops Customized Slicer Software for Tooth Output
The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (KETI) announced that it has developed customized slicer software, a key technology in 3D printing. The developed software is customized slicer software optimized for dental printing utilizing DLP-type 3D printing. In 3D printing, pre-processing is essential, such as when some parts of the target structure to be printed are suspended in air during the additive manufacturing process, requiring the creation and printing of supports to sustain those areas in advance. Slicer software performs pre-processing tasks such as rotation of 3D models and support placement, and generates printing data by dividing 3D models into horizontal layers, functioning as core software in 3D printing.

H.Energy has obtained green technology certification from the Small and Medium Business Administration for solar power generation forecasting and I-V curve anomaly diagnosis technology. The AI-based asset management platform SolarOnCare is deployed across more than 3,000 power plants nationwide, achieving a system uptime of 99.82% and a 3.7% improvement in power generation performance. Through real-time data analysis, it protects power generation revenue by detecting and managing minor losses such as module degradation and partial shading early on.
