Total Cost of Ownership Reduction for Cloud and Enterprise Customers

Western Digital has unveiled the new 14TB 'Ultrastar DC HC530' HDD, the largest capacity among conventional magnetic recording (CMR) HDDs. With this new product, cloud and enterprise customers can significantly reduce their total cost of ownership (TCO).

The increase in big data is requiring greater capacity across various applications and workloads. The Ultrastar DC HC530, featuring Western Digital's 5th generation HelioSeal technology, is designed for public and private cloud environments that prioritize metrics such as storage density, power consumption per terabyte (watt/TB), and operating costs ($/TB) to build cost-effective infrastructure.

With the explosion of data driven by the development of big data, the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence, machine learning, high-quality content, and fast data applications, hyperscale cloud data centers and enterprises are facing the challenge of efficiently building massive infrastructure on a petabyte scale. The ability to scale up or scale out efficiently is very important from a business perspective.

Following the launch of the industry's first 14TB Shingled Magnetic Recording (SMR) drive, Western Digital is introducing the new Ultrastar DC HC530. This 14TB CMR-based product supports a drop-in design that makes drive replacement easy, making it suitable for random write workloads in enterprise and cloud data centers.

In addition, by filling the inside of the HDD with helium, since 2014, it has offered the highest capacity, unrivaled power efficiency, and long-term dataWestern Digital's proprietary patented HelioSeal process, which has provided groundbreaking reliability, has been applied. This technology enables low-power designs without performance degradation, thereby reducing TCO. The interface supports both SAS and SATA.
