LG Electronics recently selected four startups that will pursue business using webOS.

In March, LG Electronics signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) to discover and foster promising startups and released an open-source version of webOS (webOS Open Source Edition). LG Electronics accepted applications from startups seeking to leverage webOS until the end of March. After carefully evaluating the synergies with webOS and potential for commercialization, the company selected four finalists.

The selected startups are ▲Consider C, a developer of a virtual reality indoor bicycle that allows you to ride a bicycle realistically indoors; ▲Moimsoft, a developer of a solution that uses a smart mirror to analyze your skin condition and recommend makeup techniques; ▲Mobidu, a developer of a short-range communication solution using sound waves; and ▲Cuckoo Dox, a developer of a solution that allows you to view various types of documents using a web browser.

LG Electronics will provide selected startups with know-how on developing solutions using webOS, while also providing them with opportunities to promote their solutions by participating in domestic and international developer events. Additionally, one startup (Consider C) that wished to move into LG Science Park, located in Gangseo-gu, was provided with a comfortable work environment to conduct research and development.

WebOS is LG Electronics' proprietary operating system, used in smart TVs, digital signage, and other products. Anyone can access the webOS source code for free by visiting the webOS developer site (http://webosose.org).

LG Electronics continues to invest in startups. It recently acquired a 10% stake in the AI startup Acryl, and since last year, it has been collaborating on technology with the wearable robotics startup SG Robotics.

LG Electronics' commitment to fostering and investing in startups is aligned with its open innovation approach.
