Shutterstock Unveils Revolutionary Deep Learning-Based Search Tool
Published2018.05.18 11:15Shutterstock has launched a new Google Chrome extension, Shutterstock Reveal. Alongside this, Shutterstock has also unveiled Shutterstock Showcase, featuring innovative new search features called Copy Space and Refine.
Shutterstock Showcase, formerly known as Shutterstock Labs, is a site that showcases Shutterstock's innovative AI research and introduces three new tools.
Reveal: A Google Chrome extension that helps users find similar photos, vectors, and illustrations from Shutterstock's collection of over 190 million images based on a specific image they select online.
Copy Space: A tool based on computer vision technology developed by Shutterstock that allows users to search for images with space to add text. You can also search by specifying the location and size of copy space within the image.
Advanced Search: When users select an image on the search results page that most closely resembles the image they are looking for, Shutterstock's technology finds images with a similar style and similar features.

Shutterstock Protected Copyrights with Watermark Removal Technology
Shutterstock has announced that it has already applied solutions to address copyright protection concerns raised by Google's recently disclosed watermark removal algorithm technology for stock photos through its enhanced watermark technology. According to the method disclosed by Google, computer vision technology can be utilized to automatically remove watermarks inserted into photos, thereby putting the copyrights of photographers and creators protected by watermarks at risk. As a solution to this announcement, Shutterstock developed a watermark random generator and changed its approach to insert different watermarks for each image. The shape of the modified watermark differs from image to image, and the name of the contributor who uploaded the image is also included in the watermark. By creating entirely different watermarks for each image, the algorithm is made technically difficult to identify and remove the form. The new watermark successfully passed Google's algorithm and demonstrated copyright protection effectiveness. Even before Google's research results were announced, Shutterstock had already applied the new watermark to more than 150 million of its images, protecting its assets.

Databricks Unveils Open AI Security Monitoring 'Lakewatch'
Databricks entered the security market on March 24 by unveiling LakeWatch, an open-source agentic SIEM. The core functionality of this product is to integrate and analyze security, IT, and business data in a single environment to support AI-based threat detection and investigation. The company explained that it reduces the limitations of existing security operations centers, which have had to forgo some data due to high cost structures, and enables large-scale data analysis and automation based on open formats and ecosystems. LakeWatch is currently offered as a private preview, with Adobe and Dropbox mentioned as early customers. Databricks also announced an expanded partnership with Anthropic as well as the acquisition of Antimatter and SiftD.ai.

Ecolab Expands AI Data Center Cooling Business Through Acquisition of CoolIT
Ecolab has agreed to acquire CoolIT Systems, a liquid cooling company for AI data centers, for approximately $4.75 billion. The transaction is expected to close by Q3 2026, subject to regulatory approvals. CoolIT has been supplying direct-to-chip cooling-based coolant distribution units, cold plates, and manifolds, serving hyperscale data centers and colocation operators as customers. This acquisition is a measure to address the high-heat and high-density server environments created by AI proliferation. Ecolab plans to combine its water management and digital monitoring capabilities with CoolIT's hardware technology to expand its data center cooling business.
