ST Acquires Draupner Graphics, Developer of TouchGFX

Draupner is the developer and supplier of TouchGFX, a software framework that delivers sophisticated graphics and smooth animations to embedded GUIs (Graphical User Interfaces) with minimal resource requirements and power consumption.
TouchGFX, based on 32-bit microcontrollers, implements high-end graphics compliant with the latest smartphone standards across all devices and systems, including smart homes, building automation systems, home appliances, wearables, audio and video systems.
ST, a manufacturer of the STM32 MCU product family, is one of the largest suppliers in the 32-bit Arm® Cortex®-M core MCU sector and possesses a robust hardware and software ecosystem that facilitates and accelerates application development. Some of the STM32 product line already supports TouchGFX.
Daniel Colonna, Executive Vice President of Microcontroller Marketing at ST, stated, "Draupner's TouchGFX software is a graphics user interface solution optimized for microcontrollers.
ST has worked closely with Draupner over the past five years and has continuously verified that TouchGFX delivers outstanding value across diverse consumer and home appliance, industrial, and medical applications based on STM32 MCUs."
He further stated, "By acquiring Draupner Graphics, we will accelerate the achievement of TouchGFX and STM32 roadmaps to provide enhanced capabilities to embedded developers and customers. Through this, we will be able to elevate the level of HMI (Human-Machine Interface) across all devices with which people interact in their daily lives."
Jorgen Mygind, Business Development Manager at Draupner, stated, "The combination of a world-leading software supplier and a leading supplier in the 32-bit embedded MCU sector will accelerate functional integration and enable us to achieve our roadmap and plans for expanding the adoption of Draupner's tools and STM32 MCUs ahead of schedule." The acquisition terms were not disclosed.

[EVKIT] 'STM32L4+ Discovery Kit' Equipped with Low Power, GUI, and Security
Follow along and become a kit expert! Today's featured kit is ST Microelectronics' STM32L4+ Discovery Kit. Through Weekly EVKIT, Kim Doo-hyung, manager at ST, presented the features and demonstration of the STM32L4+ Discovery Kit. We heard detailed information about the STM32L4+ MCU and Discovery Kit, which despite its low power consumption delivers high performance and was validated globally after being introduced at CES 2018. The demonstration also provided an opportunity to enhance understanding among developers and many others. - Could you explain the characteristics of the STM32L4+ Discovery Kit, which is mainly used in smart applications? Battery-powered smart applications occupy a significant share in the market, making energy-efficient, low-power design necessary. As a low-power MCU, the STM32L4+ received high scores in ULPBench, and its maximum operating frequency is 120MHz, representing a 50% improvement compared to the STM32L4. It also provides communication interfaces such as UART, I2C, SPI, USB, and LPTimer, LPUART, MIPI DSI, parallel for TFT LCD, and Octo-SPI. - What role does the Chrome-ART Accelerator embedded with Enhanced Graphic in the round UI play? The Chrome-ART accelerator supports blending two images and pixel format conversion. For this purpose, it provides data copy functionality and anti-aliasing management. Through this, it reduces CPU load when performing 2D graphic operations. Additionally, the STM32L4+ includes Chrom-GRC, an MMU (graphics memory management unit) that enables appropriate memory usage according to display type. For example, when designing an application that supports circular displays like a smart band, resources use rectangular images. In this case, when displaying output, the area outside the circle wastes only memory resources. However, Chrom-GRC copies the rectangular resource image to virtual memory and stores only the portion visible on the circular display in actual memory, allowing approximately 20% savings in memory resources.
