Better value at affordable prices, MediaTek Helio A

MediaTek unveiled the Helio A series chipset lineup on July 17, also introducing the first system-on-chip (SoC), the Helio A22.
Building on the success achieved by the Helio P20, P22, P23, and P60 chipsets, the Helio A series increases accessibility to affordable high-performance devices for far more consumers.
The A22 is manufactured using a 12nm FinFET process to enhance power efficiency. With MediaTek's CorePilot technology applied, this chipset optimizes power consumption for each task to extend device battery life, enabling users to accomplish more for longer on their devices. It also showcases AI capabilities leveraging MediaTek's NeuroPilot SDK (software development kit) expansion and third-party AI applications.
The A22 supports dual camera configurations up to 13+8 megapixels at 30FPS and single cameras operating in up to 21 megapixel mode. It supports up to 20:9 HD+, making it suitable for use in large-screen devices as well.
The A22 supports the latest AI framework including Google's Android Neural Networks API (Android NNAPI). It supports Cat-4 and Cat-7 4G LTE performance and provides dual 4G SIM with VoLTE and ViLTE. To enhance design flexibility, it supports both LPDDR3 and the newer, faster LPDDR4. In addition, the GNSS positioning enhancement feature delivers 57% faster initial positioning speed, 10% higher accuracy, and 24% lower power consumption compared to previous-generation chipsets. Based on 802.11ac Wi-Fi, the A22 also supports Bluetooth 5.0.
TL Lee, head of MediaTek's Wireless Communications Business Group, stated, "The Helio A series continues our vision of a mobile market accessible to everyone," adding that "advanced features are not limited to expensive devices."
He further explained, "As we have seen so far, the mid-range market is experiencing explosive growth, and consumer interest in powerful and affordable devices that provide the best value continues. Device manufacturers will be able to create innovative devices that deliver the best mobile experience to consumers in the mid-range segment through the Helio A22."
The Helio A series is currently in mass production, and in China, the Xiaomi Redmi 6A equipped with the Helio A22 is being sold.

ST, Integrating NFC Technology into MediaTek Mobile Platform
STMicroelectronics (ST) announced that it is integrating its contactless NFC technology into MediaTek's mobile platform. Mobile payments are expected to achieve three-digit growth rates within the coming years, driven by the rapid increase in contactless transit ticketing services in the Asia region, particularly in major Chinese cities. The two companies are integrating ST's NFC chipset into MediaTek's mobile platform to help mobile OEM manufacturers address technical challenges such as antenna design and integration, antenna miniaturization, and BoM (Bill-of-Material) optimization, while ensuring interoperability with payment terminals located at retail locations and transit-centered areas. MediaTek, the world's second-largest mobile handset solution provider, can now implement superior contactless performance compared to competing platforms by adding ST's technology.
