LG Smartphones, From Premium to Value Models
Full Commitment to Post-Purchase Support Through Software Updates
LG Electronics is making an all-out effort to restore consumer confidence in its smartphones.

On the 1st, LG Electronics announced its fourth quarter OS upgrade schedule and software update plans on its homepage. Products scheduled for OS upgrades within the fourth quarter include not only mid-range smartphones released last year such as the 2017 model X300, X400, and X500, but also tablets (G Pad 4 8.0). After completing the OS upgrades scheduled for next month, LG Electronics will focus more intensively on software updates that enhance the functionality of each individual product.

LG Electronics is announcing all update information on its homepage (www.lge.co.kr). Customers can access the 'SW Update Notification' in the mobile section of the homepage to check update details in detail. Anyone can easily check information on the LG Electronics homepage without separate authentication or membership registration procedures. In addition to OS upgrades, customers can view various software update status including the latest security patches and expanded LG Pay functionality.

When users receive a software update notification on their smartphone, they can proceed with the update wirelessly immediately or connect to a PC and upgrade using the 'LG Bridge' program. 'LG Bridge' can be downloaded from the mobile download center within the LG Electronics homepage.

Security patches and software updates can be performed by accessing the Update Center from smartphone settings or by selecting 'Software Update' from the 'Update Center App'.

Operating system and software updates have become more systematic and concrete since the 'SW Upgrade Center' opened in April this year. OS upgrades are irregular events since upgrades are only possible when new operating systems become available. Nevertheless, LG Electronics established the SW Upgrade Center with the intention of providing stable and continuous service.

On September 10th and 12th, LG Electronics significantly improved the convenience and performance of the LG G7 ThinQ and LG V35 ThinQ respectively through software updates. The updates added the Q Lens shopping search function, and camera performance was enhanced including improved continuous shooting speed. Additionally, approximately 30 improvements were included that reflect customer requirements such as image quality, visibility, and app performance.

Furthermore, in July, LG V20 was upgraded to the latest operating system Android 8.0 Oreo, and in August, LG G5 and X4 were upgraded. In addition to security patches from Google and chipset manufacturers, LG Electronics also provided its own latest security patches.

LG Electronics' smartphone payment service LG Pay is also continuously evolving. Through an August update, support for Kakao Bank check cards was initiated. Kakao Bank check cards offer the advantages of convenient and fast service. Having issued approximately 5 million cards within a year of launch, they are gaining popularity particularly among the younger demographic familiar with online services. In addition to premium product lines such as the LG G series and LG V series, LG Pay is installed in all smartphones released this year excluding budget phones, including the LG X4, LG X4+, and all products released domestically this year.

An LG Electronics official emphasized, "Through continuous and stable post-purchase support, we will consistently build trust with consumers that 'LG smartphones are reliable and worth purchasing.'"
