LG Electronics Develops Intelligent Navigation Software
Robotis Develops Hardware including Motor Controller
Plans to Continuously Expand Robot Product Line
LG Electronics has decided to jointly develop an autonomous driving module, a core component of mobile robots, with Robotis.

On September 28th, LG Electronics and Robotis signed a joint development contract for the autonomous driving module at Robotis' headquarters located in Magok-dong, Seoul, attended by Robotis CEO Kim Byung-soo and LG Electronics Executive Director Ryu Hye-jung in charge of H&A Smart Solution Business. The autonomous driving module is a core driving module used in mobile robots.

LG Electronics' Robot Advanced Research Institute under the CTO Division will develop software by applying intelligent navigation technology, while Robotis will be responsible for hardware development including the driving unit and motor controller of the autonomous driving module.

The Robot Advanced Research Institute is an organization established last June within the Convergence Center under the CTO Division for advanced research on intelligent robots.

Robotis, founded in 1999, possesses capabilities ranging from hardware such as controllers and sensor modules in the robot solutions and educational robot sectors to module management programs and robot driving software. In particular, the company has independently developed 'actuators,' which are power driving devices serving as robot joints, and supplies them to not only domestic companies but also major global enterprises, earning recognition for its technological capabilities. Actuators, a core component of robots, enhance robot flexibility and expand their range of motion.

LG Electronics participated in a paid-in capital increase conducted by Robotis last December and acquired a 10.12% stake in Robotis.

Ryu Hye-jung, Executive Director of LG Electronics' H&A Smart Solution Business Division, emphasized, "Through continuous cooperation with Robotis, which has accumulated robot development capabilities over nearly 20 years, we will continue to expand our robot product line."

Kim Byung-soo, CEO of Robotis, said, "Through cooperation with LG Electronics, synergies between home appliances and robots can be maximized."

LG Electronics is accelerating its robot business by continuously introducing various robot products based on core technologies such as artificial intelligence and autonomous driving.
