LG U+ Completes Preparations for Year-End and New Year Holiday Traffic Surge

LG U+ has deployed 15 mobile base stations and repeaters to major areas including Seoul's Bosingak Bell Pavilion, Daejeon City Hall, Gangneung's Jeongdongjin, Busan's Yongdusan Park, Ulsan's Ganjeolgot, and Gyeongbuk's Homigot, where crowds are expected to gather for New Year's bell-ringing ceremonies, sunrise viewing, and other year-end and new year events.
Additionally, LG U+ has conducted base station optimization and capacity expansion across downtown areas of major cities nationwide outside event venues, as well as in department stores, shopping centers, ski resorts, and expressways.
In parallel, LG U+ will establish emergency operations at its Magok headquarters situation room and deploy on-site operation personnel to major event areas for emergency response, rapid traffic distribution, and swift field response capabilities.

He also noted that while the wireless market to date has been centered on speed and technology-driven, one-way two-dimensional high-capacity video services, the competitive landscape in the 5G era will shift to convergence services that add value to speed and technology and ultra-high-definition immersive media services that enable interaction.

U+, the first in Korea to achieve 10x LTE speeds on a commercial 5G network
LG Uplus has validated the maximum speed available for 5G terminals in actual networks based on 3GPP standard specifications, becoming the first in Korea to achieve speeds exceeding 1.33Gbps. This 1.33Gbps speed represents up to 10 times faster than the average download speed of LTE service at 133.43Mbps, and approaches the theoretical maximum speed achievable with the 80MHz bandwidth allocated to LG Uplus in the 3.5GHz frequency band where mobile carriers are currently providing 5G services.

European Patent Applications Surpass 200,000 for the First Time… South Korea Maintains 5th Place, Led by Batteries and Telecommunications
According to the European Patent Office (EPO)'s 'Technology Dashboard 2025', European patent applications last year reached 201,974, surpassing 200,000 for the first time. Korean companies and inventors filed 14,355 applications, representing a 9.5% increase from the previous year and maintaining 5th place by country. Battery, digital communication, and semiconductor technologies led the growth, with Samsung ranking as the top EPO applicant for the second consecutive year and LG reaching 3rd place. The presence of major domestic cities such as Seoul, Suwon, and Yongin was also confirmed. It was also revealed that Korea's European patent strategy is expanding beyond individual technologies to span the entire industry.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK Telecom announced that it applied an AI-based network operation system for the first time at a large-scale K-pop concert held in the Gwanghwamun area of Seoul on March 21st, managing communication quality throughout the event. Mobile data usage during the three hours before and after the concert reached 12.15TB, approximately doubling compared to the same time slot the previous weekend. SK Telecom monitored traffic using the AI system 'A-One' in five-minute and 50-meter units to respond to potential overload situations, while also operating temporary communication facilities and on-site personnel in parallel. This case is interpreted as confirmation of the practical applicability of AI-based autonomous network operation in an environment where demand from dense events and foreign users increases simultaneously.
