Published2017.07.04 06:42Gaitek Korea's collaborative robot, Baxter, is a safe robot capable of working closely with humans in production environments without a protective barrier. Baxter can be easily trained in minutes, without requiring any software or robotics expertise. It can recognize its work environment and automatically adjust to changes. The robot arm has seven degrees of freedom, providing flexibility and maximizing its workspace.
It features a 360-degree sonar sensor that can recognize human presence, a front camera, and a force sensor that can control joints, allowing them to work together in the same space.
Baxter is currently being used by robotics researchers and educators for academic research and engineering education.
Additionally, Gaitek Korea offers the Sawyer robot, the successor to the Baxter. Equipped with a Cognex camera in its hand, it is suitable for high-precision tasks such as machine maintenance and circuit board testing.

The World IT Show also held an exhibition of excellent research achievements from university ICT Research Centers (ITRC). The ITRC project is a field-oriented ICT workforce development initiative in which participating researchers from universities conduct research and development jointly with industry to develop technologies applicable in industrial settings. Divided into six areas—future society safety/security, future society contents/media, industrial ICT convergence, intelligent ICT convergence, smart life, and smart infrastructure—38 centers from 30 universities participated. Among these, the 'real-time face tracking drone' technology tracks a person's face and currently follows only the frontal view of the face. It maintains a fixed distance while tracking the person while keeping that distance constant. The product demonstrated in the demonstration had a distance set to 0.7m, but the distance can be changed depending on camera performance. The face captured by the camera can be output and viewed on a monitor as video. Through intelligent video detection, it can be applied to the security market.

Future Growth Industries: Robots and Drones, How Far Have We Come?
An opportunity has been created to see at a glance how robots and drones are being used across various fields. The 'RoboUniverse & K Drone Summit' will be held at Ilsan KINTEX from the 28th to the 30th. The RoboUniverse Summit is an international exhibition that tours seven cities worldwide, comprehensively covering IOE (Internet Of Everything)-based robot technology, marking the second edition following last year. This year will feature the Mayor of Jeonju Cup National Drone Soccer Tournament, KT Drone Racing Tournament, robot competition and other events, as well as exhibitions of various drones and robots including agricultural drones, maritime drones, and unmanned delivery drones. Over four days, conferences will be held on the themes of artificial intelligence, robots and drones.

VR used to be device-centric, now content-centric.
A VR Summit was held at KINTEX for three days starting Wednesday the 28th. The event, co-hosted by RisingMedia, a global media group from the United States, and KINTEX, featured various booths showcasing VR games, VR journalism, and adult VR content, and held conferences with approximately 20 experts from 8 countries. In the exhibition hall, in addition to VR shooting games that had been seen before, visitors could experience Omni, where players walk or run while wearing dedicated shoes with low friction to play games; content that recreates existing PlayStation games in VR and a VR-exclusive PlayStation 4; PC Direct, where users wearing an HMD control drones to fly them through landscapes; VR experiences of taekwondo with sensors attached to both arms and the abdomen; and adult VR content.

KETI Selected as '2026 Intellectual Property Management Excellence Institution'
Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) has been selected as a government-sponsored excellence institution in recognition of its intellectual property management capabilities, including patent creation and utilization. The institute participated in the retained patent diagnosis sector for three consecutive years, diagnosing approximately 1,200 registered patents, and achieved results by registering patents with international standard patent pools Via LA and AVANCI. Over the past decade, KETI achieved 100% increase in registered patents and over 50% increase in overseas applications, and receives support from the Intellectual Property Office for patent application and registration costs for up to three years.

In the Edge AI Era, 'Self-Thinking Sensors' Transform Intelligent Factories
With the proliferation of edge AI, manufacturing is undergoing transformation into intelligent factories that analyze data on-site in real time. STMicroelectronics' latest MEMS sensors measure diverse information including vibration, temperature, and acoustic signals, and execute machine learning within the sensor itself through in-sensor AI to assess anomalies in real time. This enhances predictive maintenance efficiency and reduces network load. Developers can directly embed trained models in MLC and ISPU-based sensors, and development difficulty has been lowered through tools such as MEMS Studio.
