Velodyne Lidar announced on the 1st that it has supplied lidar sensors for HoloMatic's new autonomous driving technology, which eliminates the burden on drivers of spending time searching for parking spaces.

HoloMatic's HoloParking system is China's first smart valet parking solution that operates 24 hours daily under all weather conditions.
Unlike parking assistance systems, HoloParking does not require the vehicle to be driven to the parking spot itself. Instead, the system allows the driver to exit at the parking lot entrance. When a vehicle uses HoloParking, it can find a parking space on its own and complete parking without human supervision.
When exiting the vehicle from the parking lot, the driver remotely activates the system, and the vehicle autonomously drives from the parking space to the pickup area. During this process, the driver does not need to enter the parking lot.
By using Velodyne's smart lidar sensors to provide high-resolution 3D information about the surrounding environment, HoloParking operates excellently in a wide range of scenarios. HoloParking provides users with safe and reliable autonomous parking service even in low-light environments, complex parking lots with mixed pedestrian and vehicle traffic, or adverse weather conditions.
Kai Ni, founder and CEO of HoloMatic, stated, "Nearly all drivers have experienced time pressure from searching for parking spaces or failing to meet appointments," and added, "Velodyne's lidar sensors enable the HoloParking system to navigate complex parking structures, adverse weather, and situations with people and objects around the vehicle."
HoloParking is scheduled to be commercialized in some Chinese cities starting with Shanghai this year. By 2020, HoloParking plans to support at least 20 parking lots each across approximately 20 cities.
Wei Weng, Executive Vice President of Velodyne Lidar Asia Pacific, stated, "HoloMatic has developed an autonomous driving solution capable of 24-hour operation for vehicle parking and exiting under all weather conditions," and added, "The HoloParking system fully leverages Velodyne's rich computer perception data to enable vehicles to reach parking spaces most safely."
