As we enter an era of large-scale adoption of AI in corporate businesses, IBM announced on the 18th that it has enhanced the portability of its enterprise AI, Watson, so that it can be used in any cloud environment.
This allows businesses to leverage Watson AI across public, private, and hybrid multi-cloud environments across any cloud provider, wherever their data resides.

Many companies are interested in adopting AI, but are struggling to carry out AI-related projects.

According to the MIT Sloan report, 83% of surveyed companies agreed that enterprise-wide adoption of AI is a strategic opportunity, but 81% said they were unsure what data AI requires or how to access it.

A recent Gartner study found that enterprises are struggling with the ever-increasing complexity of data integration projects and the resulting time and cost.

Rob Thomas, General Manager of IBM Data and AI, said, “For a long time, companies have been storing data.“Because we could only use AI provided by the cloud where it was installed, there were limitations in introducing AI across the company,” he said. “Most large companies are storing data in a hybrid multi-cloud environment, and there is a growing demand to apply AI to that data, regardless of where it is stored.”

He continued, “IBM aims to help accelerate innovation through the adoption of AI by overcoming the limitations of closed infrastructures where AI operates separately even within a single company.”

Watson empowers businesses around the world to mine data, predict outcomes, and automate time- and resource-sensitive processes, powered by a clear set of applications, development tools, machine learning models, and managed services.

This announcement makes it easier and faster for enterprises to leverage IBM Watson services, including Watson Assistant, and Watson OpenScale on any cloud.

Watson Assistant, which implements conversational interfaces for applications and devices, has advanced capabilities over traditional chatbots, intelligently determining when to retrieve results, confirm the user's question, and transfer the user to a live agent.

Watson OpenScale includes features that increase AI transparency and strengthen regulatory compliance by providing real-time explanations of the process by which AI decisions were made.

Watson and Watson OpenScale are integrated with IBM Cloud Private for Data, enabling on-premises serversOf course, it can be operated in any environment, including private, public, hybrid, and multi-cloud.

IBM Cloud Private for Data is IBM's open cloud AI platform that already integrates advanced data science, data engineering, and application building capabilities, including Watson Studio and Watson Machine Learning. Additional Watson services, such as Watson Knowledge Studio and Watson Natural Language Understanding, are planned for the second half of this year.
