Western Digital announced on the 20th that its 'ActiveScale Object Storage System' now supports the 'Veeam Cloud Tier' function from data recovery and backup software company Veeam.

Veeam Cloud Tier is included in the new Veeam Availability Suite 9.5 Update 4. With this support, ActiveScale systems now provide a fast and cost-effective hybrid cloud backup repository for managing the exploding data volumes in today's data centers.
“We are excited that Western Digital’s ActiveScale system will be the first to be compatible with Beam Cloud Tier,” said Ken Ringdahl, vice president of Beam Global Alliance Architecture. “ActiveScale’s support for Beam Cloud Tier will enable our two companies to work together to develop technologies that transform customer experiences and intelligently manage data.”
“Our goal with Veeam is to ensure that customers using our ActiveScale systems or IntelliFlash all-flash arrays can always have their data protected and quickly restored,” said Stefaan Vervaet, senior director, Solutions and Alliances, Data Center Systems, Western Digital. “The combination of our systems and Veeam software provides a scalable and cost-effective solution for end-to-end backup of enterprise and service provider applications.”
Western Digital's ActiveScale is a next-generation object storage solution for unstructured data growing to petabytes (PB). Accelerates the implementation of a 'Data Forever' architecture that can economically and safely store petabytes of data for a long time with data durability of up to 99.999999999999999%.
Additionally, the 'Unified Data Access' feature allows for easy loading and management of data in traditional file system formats, improving storage usability in workload environments with mixed files and objects.
The currently available ActiveScale product line starts at 500TB and scales up to 49PB per single namespace. Ideal for backup and archive, data collaboration, and digital repository use cases for media workflows, analytics, machine learning, IoT, and more.
Western Digital's data center portfolio, including the ActiveScale object storage family, supports workloads across all application tiers, from business-critical applications to long-term archives.

Databricks Unveils Open AI Security Monitoring 'Lakewatch'
Databricks entered the security market on March 24 by unveiling LakeWatch, an open-source agentic SIEM. The core functionality of this product is to integrate and analyze security, IT, and business data in a single environment to support AI-based threat detection and investigation. The company explained that it reduces the limitations of existing security operations centers, which have had to forgo some data due to high cost structures, and enables large-scale data analysis and automation based on open formats and ecosystems. LakeWatch is currently offered as a private preview, with Adobe and Dropbox mentioned as early customers.
