[MWC19 Preview] LG U+ Unveils 5G Strategic B2B Services

LG Uplus announced on the 21st that it will showcase 5G-based strategic B2B services at MWC19, which will be held from the 25th to the 28th, and demonstrate to the world that industrial sites are being reorganized by 5G.
MWC19 is expected to focus on the hyper-connected society created through new technologies such as 5G communication technology, IoT, and AI, under the theme of 'Intelligent Connectivity.'
LG Uplus to Unveil 5G B2B Services at MWC19
LG Uplus' strategy is to create new business opportunities in the 5G era by introducing B2C services that will transform customers' daily lives in the 5G era, as well as B2B services that will transform future industrial sites.
The 5G B2B services being introduced at this year's MWC include ▲smart factories and robot remote control ▲intelligent CCTV ▲low-latency video transmission solutions ▲autonomous driving HD maps, etc.
LG Uplus will demonstrate a 5G smart factory remote control service that connects its Barcelona, Spain, and Pyeongtaek, Korea, production plants in real time, leveraging its 5G network and synergy between affiliates, including LG Electronics Materials Production Technology Institute's factory construction experience and LG CNS's platform technology.
br /> By utilizing the ultra-high speed, ultra-low latency, and ultra-connectivity characteristics of 5G communication technology, the movements of autonomous logistics robots within the Mold Technology Center of the LG Electronics Materials Production Technology Institute located in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi-do, are controlled in real time at the MWC.
Cameras installed on logistics robots transmit real-time driving footage to screens in the MWC exhibition hall. Furthermore, various sensors installed on the logistics robots detect the working environment, remotely monitoring conditions such as temperature, humidity, and gas within the factory, and sending alerts to Spain if any abnormalities occur.
Intelligent CCTVs utilize AI analytics technology to instantly detect whether MWC staff are wearing hard hats and display the detected footage on screens. Additionally, the installed intelligent CCTVs measure the length of time visitors spend in the LG 5G exhibition hall, creating a heat map that is then displayed on video. This allows visitors to see at a glance which areas of the exhibition hall they are most interested in and spending the most time in.
The low-latency video transmission solution allows for the video and audio transmitted by the camera installed in the booth to be displayed on the screen with and without the solution applied, allowing for comparison of the speed difference. Delay-free video transmission combined with LG U+'s 5G network can be used for real-time remote control of drones, excavators, and other equipment in various industrial settings.
In addition, visitors to the B2B booth can check information on the autonomous driving HD map service, which delivers road information quickly and accurately down to the centimeter using 5G ultra-low latency data transmission, through a touch screen installed on the wall.
LG Uplus plans to explore partnerships and business opportunities with global companies for 5G-based B2B services at this year's MWC and discuss future development directions.
LG Uplus FC Strategy Director Choi Chang-guk said, “The areas where 5G’s ultra-high speed and low latency characteristics can stand out are various B2B solutions such as smart factories,” and “We will sequentially unveil B2B strategic services based on a stable and excellent 5G network and move to enhance the services.”

KT recorded annual revenue of 23.4601 trillion won and operating profit of 1.2615 trillion won in 2018. These figures represent increases of 1.6% compared to the previous year and a decrease of 11.4% in operating profit year-over-year. SK Telecom achieved annual revenue of 16.8740 trillion won and operating profit of 1.2018 trillion won in 2018. These figures represent decreases of 3.7% and 21.8%, respectively, compared to the previous year.

LG U+, the first in Korea to apply 86Tbps router to commercial network
LG Uplus has deployed an 86Tbps router equipment in its internet backbone network. 86Tbps represents a processing speed capable of handling data equivalent to 2,400 DVDs—each capable of storing one UHD-grade movie—in one second, which is more than 7 times faster than the router equipment previously in use. This equipment was jointly developed by LG Uplus and Nokia, and incorporates the FP4 processor, the world's first multiterabit network processor developed in 2018.

European Patent Applications Surpass 200,000 for the First Time… South Korea Maintains 5th Place, Led by Batteries and Telecommunications

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK Telecom announced that it applied an AI-based network operation system for the first time at a large-scale K-pop concert held in the Gwanghwamun area of Seoul on March 21st, managing communication quality throughout the event. Mobile data usage during the three hours before and after the concert reached 12.15TB, approximately doubling compared to the same time slot the previous weekend. SK Telecom monitored traffic using the AI system 'A-One' in five-minute and 50-meter units to respond to potential overload situations, while also operating temporary communication facilities and on-site personnel in parallel. This case is interpreted as confirmation of the practical applicability of AI-based autonomous network operation in an environment where demand from dense events and foreign users increases simultaneously.
