Dual 14-bit A/D Converter, Reduction of Power Consumption and Size in Communications, Instrumentation, Test, and Measurement Applications

- ADI's 2-channel high-performance 14-bit 125MSPS A/D converter 'AD9645' reduces total power consumption and board area by up to 22% and 30%, respectively, compared to competing solutions.
- Suitable for the latest 3G and 4G multi-standard mobile communication infrastructure equipment, battery-powered portable measuring instruments and scopes, portable medical devices, etc.
July 17, 2012 – Analog Devices ( www.analog.com , NASDAQ: ADI), a leader in high-performance signal processing technology and the data converter market that has maintained its position as the global market leader for data converters for 47 years, today launched a 2-channel high-performance 14-bit 125 MSPS A/D converter capable of reducing overall power consumption by up to 22% compared to competing solutions. The new product is characterized by cost-effectiveness and functional flexibility, as well as providing faster speeds and a wider dynamic range under lower power consumption conditions. The new AD9645 A/D converter is available in a 5mm × 5mm package, occupying 30% less board space than its closest competitor. The new converter meets the performance and size requirements of modern 3G and 4G multi-standard mobile communication infrastructure equipment, such as CDMA2000, WB-CDMA, LTE, TD-SCDMA, and multi-carrier GSM. In addition to the communications field, it is also suitable for battery-powered portable measuring instruments, scopes, and portable medical devices.
The dual AD9645 A/D converter consumes only 122mW per channel at 125MSPS (mega samples per second) performance conditions and provides an excellent spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) of 91dBc at 70MHz. This device is designed for use in multi-mode digital receiver architectures with an intermediate frequency (IF) sampling range of up to 200MHz. The pin-compatible dual 12-bit product, the AD9635, is also available, allowing users to easily handle design migration between 12-bit and 14-bit converters providing sampling rates from 20MSPS to 125MSPS.
The AD9645 dual AD converter features a multiphase differential pipeline architecture with integrated output-error-correction logic. The AD9645 is available as a RoHS-compliant 32-lead LFCSP and is specified to operate over an industrial temperature range of –40°C to +85°C. This dual A/D converter provides space-saving serial LVDS digital outputs via two lanes per channel.
