Infineon Launches iMOTION IMM100 Series… PCB Size Miniaturization and Simplified Development Work

Infineon Technologies announced on the 11th that it is launching an intelligent IPM motor controller that fully integrates essential hardware and software for BLDC motor drives up to 80W.

The new iMOTION IMM100 series integrates a motor controller IC and 3-phase inverter stage in a compact 12mm x 12mm PQFN package, reducing BOM count and PCB size while lowering system costs. As the smallest motor drive IC, it is suitable for space-constrained home appliance applications such as hair dryers, range hoods, air conditioner fans, dishwashers, and washing machine pumps. It can also be used in applications such as low-power refrigerator compressors, heating pumps, and industrial pumps.
The IMM100 series offers two product versions for selection according to requirements. The T-version product integrates sophisticated FOC algorithms into iMOTION MCE 2.0 (Motion Control Engine 2.0). This version allows system configuration and tuning using convenient software tools. Additionally, it supports additional system-level features such as iMOTION scripts and PFC control.
The IMM100 A-version product enables implementation of custom motor control software using a programmable Arm Cortex-M0 MCU while leveraging integrated hardware advantages. Moreover, software design, compilation, and debugging can be performed using industry-standard Arm MCU IDE tools. Both versions shorten development time by integrating multiple features. In particular, the T-version product saves development costs and time by integrating production-grade MCE 2.0 software, enabling faster time-to-market.
The iMOTION IMM100 series motor control IC provides MOSFET-based power stage configurations in three specifications: 500V/6Ω, 600V/1.4Ω, and 600V/0.95Ω, allowing selection based on desired performance and price point. These products support both single-shunt and leg-shunt topology (sensorless method) and Hall sensors, providing flexible sensing method selection.
The IMM100 series also includes multiple protection functions such as low-voltage and over-voltage protection, over-current protection, rotor lock, and shoot-through protection.
Infineon will supply samples and evaluation boards for the iMOTION IMM100 products from April 2019. Mass production shipments will begin from May 2019.
