Must actively serve as a channel for gathering opinions from relevant organizations
On the 12th, at the Grand Intercontinental Seoul Parnas, the Intellectual Property Strategy Planning Group selected the Korea Patent Strategy Development Institute (IP-Creation & Utilization), the Korea Intellectual Property Protection Agency (IP-Protection), and the Korea Copyright Commission (IP-Copyright) as the organizations to operate the 2019 National Intellectual Property Network (KIPnet), and presented letters of appointment in the name of the National Intellectual Property Commission.

The National Intellectual Property Network (KIPnet) was launched in 2012 to promote cooperation among intellectual property-related institutions and organizations. It consists of three divisions: IP creation and utilization, protection, and copyright, and currently, more than 60 government-funded institutions from universities, research and development, copyright, and industry are participating.

Over the years, KIPnet has established itself as a major communication channel among intellectual property-related institutions by selecting key intellectual property-related issues based on major trends each year, holding conferences, and conducting councils and training. We plan to continue strengthening our efforts to identify and address the ideas and difficulties of intellectual property-related institutions.

At today's joint kick-off meeting, the National Intellectual Property Network (KIPnet) finalized the theme for this year's conference as "Strategies for Enhancing IP in Response to Changes in the Global Technological Environment" and announced operational plans for detailed topics for each division.

Jeong Han-geun, Head of the Intellectual Property Strategy Planning Group, said, “The importance of intellectual property is growing even more in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, with the commercialization of 5G communication services and the utilization of big data,” adding, “As the role of KIPnet is more important than ever to expand the foundation for the protection and utilization of intellectual property, I expect the secretariat to act as a facilitator.”

Meanwhile, the National Intellectual Property Committee is a committee under the President that deliberates and coordinates the government's major policies and plans regarding intellectual property, and monitors and evaluates their implementation. Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon and LS Group Chairman Koo Ja-yeol serve as co-chairs.
