Akamai announced a new update on the 13th to accelerate enterprise cloud migration strategies. With this update, companies can protect content, apps, and APIs, improve web and mobile speeds, and respond more agilely to the transition to the cloud.


Enhanced security
Akamai has expanded its portfolio of adaptive security features to enhance security and provide a better user experience.

Intelligently controls content access through perfectly integrated VPN (Virtual Private Network) and DNS (Domain Name System) proxy detection services.

Through intelligence added to Akamai's Token Authentication feature, coverage has been expanded to browsers and devices that do not support cookies, making it difficult to play stolen content.

Standard TLS (Transport Layer Security) enables the transmission of high-volume HTTPS, which is essential for large-scale broadcasters and TV streaming operators, and allows the provision of SSL certificates bearing the client's brand.

Akamai is focusing its efforts on developing technologies that enhance visibility into botnet activity across customer sites and other enterprises to address increasingly sophisticated bot threats. In addition to enhanced detection capabilities within its bot management solutions, it improves self-serviceability to enable enterprises to fine-tune settings for sophisticated bot detection and respond quickly to rapidly evolving automated threats.

Companies undergoing digital transformation heavily utilize APIs to secure new user experiences and revenue channels. To protect these APIs, dedicated solutions with superior governance, management, and security capabilities are required. With its API Gateway solution, Akamai supports automatic protection of API traffic, defense against new attack groups across web application firewalls, and advanced reconciliation capabilities.

Akamai's managed DDoS solution includes enhanced traffic profiling and attack reporting capabilities, along with features that enable security teams to more effectively configure application-layer DDoS defense settings. Enterprises can fully leverage the benefits of the intelligent edge platform to automatically block network-layer DDoS attacks and respond to application-layer DDoS attacks within seconds.

Last January, Akamai acquired Janrain, a developer of customer identity access management solutions, and integrated Janrain's security and performance services into Akamai Identity Cloud. This has significantly improved protection capabilities and consumer login page performance, enabling the company to provide higher levels of defense against consumer fraud attacks this year.


Enhancing agility for value creation
The user experience can be enhanced by automating adaptive acceleration features, such as HTTP/2 performance optimization and font library loading. Akamai is currently developing the TLS 1.3 transport standard to further strengthen security.

It also supports short-form videos that enhance the user experience by extending the image management solution. In addition, it supports DevOps teams with the addition of features such as a middle-mile log to help investigate performance issues more accurately, and a function that allows developers to test their logic in a local development environment before deploying it to production.


Streamlining operations
Akamai also unveiled extensive improvements to the Akamai Intelligent Edge Platform, which supports site, app, and API operations from concept to production deployment.

The completely redesigned Akamai Control Center simplifies operations by providing detailed reporting capabilities for security, acceleration, and delivery in a single pane of glass. Working closely with customers, Akamai has implemented an intuitive interface that enhances exploration and optimizes alert notifications, while also adding various real-time support features, including live chat.
