New 36V, 1A Step-Down Synchronous Regulator Simplifies Intermediate Power Bus and POL Power Design
July 19, 2012 – Analog Devices (www.analog.com, NASDAQ: ADI), a global leader in high-performance signal processing technology and data converter markets, today announced the ADP2441, a DC/DC switching regulator, the latest addition to ADI's growing portfolio of integrated power management switching regulator products. The new 36V, 1A step-down regulator integrates low on-resistance characteristics and high-side and low-side power switches, offering compact point-of-load (POL) design and power conversion efficiency exceeding 94%. Under light-load conditions, the ADP2441 automatically operates in pulse-skip mode (PSM) to reduce switching losses and improve energy efficiency.
The ADP2441 supports a wide input range from 4.5V to 36V, enabling application in various POL applications such as general industrial and communications equipment and healthcare devices. The output voltage can be adjusted from a minimum of 0.6V up to 90% of the input voltage. The new regulator provides a low minimum on-time of 50ns, reducing board space, and is suitable for single-phase, high-input to low-output power conversion, thereby reducing costs.
By employing current-mode fixed-frequency PWM (pulse-width modulation) control, the ADP2441 minimizes output voltage ripple due to excellent stability and transient response characteristics. The regulator's switching frequency can be adjusted between 300kHz and 1MHz, and the newly released regulator also provides precision-enable, voltage tracking, and power-good features to ensure simple and reliable startup sequencing. System reliability and protection are further enhanced through overcurrent protection, undervoltage lockout, and thermal shutdown functions. The ADP2441 operates over a junction temperature range from −40°C to +125°C and is supplied in a small 3 x 3mm 12-lead LFCSP package. ADI's integrated power management switching regulator products are supported by the ADIsimPower™ design tool, enabling faster and easier component selection, power supply performance simulation, and evaluation circuit development.
