LG Uplus and the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation are jointly promoting an ICT convergence project for rural areas.
LG Uplus and Nonghyup Central Federation signed a business agreement containing these contents on the 9th at the Nonghyup Central Federation headquarters in Seoul, with LG Uplus Vice Chairman Ha Hyeon-hoe and Nonghyup Central Federation Chairman Kim Byeong-won in attendance.

With the aim of creating new vitality in rural areas, promoting the welfare of farmers through the use of ICT technology, and supporting increased farm income, the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation will conduct related projects utilizing LG U+'s ICT technology and communications infrastructure in rural areas nationwide, maximizing the resources and capabilities of both companies.

Through this business agreement, LG Uplus and the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation will actively pursue information and communication technology convergence projects and information and communication support projects in the production and distribution sectors. The core of the ICT convergence project is to establish 'farm income and convenience solutions' and 'safety and security solutions' that utilize cutting-edge ICT technologies such as LG U+'s communication network, IoT, and control systems.

Farm income and convenience solutions include smart farm control services tailored to the farm's situation, such as ▲'pig farm monitoring' that determines the right time to ship pigs by checking the shipping weight of pigs ▲'cattle detection solution' that helps improve the shipping performance of Korean beef and the milk quality of dairy cows by managing the health of cattle using IoT-based biocapsules.

Safety and security solutions being prepared include ▲a 'smart drone' for agricultural pesticide spraying, ▲an 'intelligent CCTV' for detecting and blocking harmful animals and preventing theft of crops, ▲agricultural machinery management for preemptive diagnosis of major items related to agricultural machinery failure and real-time monitoring, and ▲'IoT fire management' to help farmers prepare quickly in the event of a fire and minimize damage.

The National Agricultural Cooperative Federation (NACF) aims to achieve a national farm household income of 50 million won by 2020 through its ICT convergence project. The federation plans to discuss expansion and application of the project with LG U+ based on the project's results.

LG Uplus Vice Chairman Ha Hyun-hoe said, “With this business agreement, we will contribute to making rural areas more livable and desirable places to visit, and in the future, by utilizing 5G communication technology, we will be able to change the daily lives of rural areas.” He added, “Going forward, we will strive to bridge the infrastructure gap between urban and rural areas and create vibrant rural areas through social contribution activities based on our unique communication technology capabilities.”

Kim Byeong-won, Chairman of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation, expressed his gratitude, saying, “LG U+ has not spared any interest or support in promoting the welfare of farmers and improving their quality of life.” He expressed his expectations, saying, “With today’s business agreement as an opportunity, we will be able to inject new vitality into agriculture and rural areas by utilizing LG U+’s ICT technology.”
