IDT's new HyperGear technology significantly improves computing application efficiency by dynamically adjusting CPU voltage and clocking frequency through output load monitoring.
IDT ( www.idt.com , Country Manager for Korea: Sang-Yup Lee), an analog-digital company leading the core mixed-signal semiconductor solutions market, announced today that it has developed a new architecture capable of achieving both power savings and performance improvements for high-frequency voltage regulator designs targeting computing applications.

IDT's new, patent-pending 'HyperGear' technology dynamically adjusts CPU voltage, peripheral bias voltage, and CPU clocking frequency based on CPU usage demands, providing over 10% efficiency improvement as well as enhancing CPU performance. Additionally, this new technology significantly reduces power and cooling costs in cloud-based data center environments and extends battery life for portable applications.
The innovative HyperGear algorithm included in IDT's power management ICs reflects the understanding that higher CPU speeds are required when running data-intensive programs such as games and videos, or when cloud-based enterprise servers experience excessive internet traffic. In these demanding situations, HyperGear safely and automatically overclocks the CPU to improve performance while reducing the time required for processing. During idle periods, the clock frequency is lowered to increase efficiency. In short, utilizing these dynamic frequency and voltage control functions not only improves the computer's execution speed but also reduces net energy consumption under normal operating conditions.

HyperGear technology connects the IDT CPU power management chip to the IDT clock console using a proprietary 2-wire serial interface bus developed by IDT. It also dynamically adjusts CPU core voltage and clock frequency by utilizing Voltage ID (VID) information and monitoring output loads, without the need for additional external components or complex circuit designs. IDT has begun using this technology in all current and future power management solutions that comply with industry standard specifications, such as VR12. Consequently, the benefits of IDT HyperGear solutions are expected to be easily realized on both existing and new platforms.
