August 1, 2012 – Linear Technology Korea (CEO Hong Sa-kwak) announced the development of a multifunctional DC/DC converter (product name: LT3959) suitable for boost, SEPIC, and inverting power supply applications. The device operates within an input voltage range of 2.5V to 40V and features an onboard 6A/40V power switch, achieving maximum efficiency of 96%. These characteristics make it suitable for industrial, automotive, medical, and telecom applications.
The LT3959 has two internal voltage feedback error amplifiers and reference voltages, enabling it to generate positive or negative regulated output voltages. One set is for positive output voltage and the other for negative output voltage, both with a single feedback pin. The operating frequency is programmable in fixed or synchronized mode between 100kHz and 1MHz, allowing designers to select a wide range of inductors and capacitors tailored to size, performance, and cost requirements. The LT3959's current mode control provides stable operation under wide input/output voltage conditions. Since the device enables designs using only ceramic capacitors, solution size can be further reduced. Other features include programmable soft start, adjustable input UVLO (undervoltage lockout), and a power good pin.
