TI Korea (CEO Kent Jeon, www.ti.com/ww/kr ) August 1, 2012 – TI (CEO Kent Jeon) has launched the UCC28700, an innovative high-efficiency power management controller that reduces standby power consumption. With this product, smartphone users of 5W cube adapters can significantly reduce their concerns regarding power consumption even when leaving the adapter plugged in. As a primary-side controller, the new UCC28700 allows for space saving by miniaturizing the size of cube adapters, wireless charging devices, and other AC power equipment. Along with this, TI has launched the TPS2511, an intelligent USB charging controller. This controller chip meets the USB Battery Charging Standard 1.2 specifications and can be widely used in major smartphone and 5V tablet PC charging adapters.

No-load adapter power
Mobile phone and adapter manufacturers comply with the new 5-Star no-load power consumption requirement of less than 30mW under the European Commission’s Integrated Product Policy (EC IPP). The UCC28700 flyback controller, which maximizes efficiency, achieved the lowest standby power rate with the smallest solution size and number of components, and enabled excellent power density. Key Features and Advantages of the UCC28700
• Lowest standby power: Achieved standby power consumption of less than 30mW and 1.5µA startup current
• Highest level of integration using PSR (primary-side regulation): no opto-feedback circuit required, wide VDD input voltage and hysteresis characteristics and low IDD standby current enable small capacitors, high switching frequency enables the use of small transformers, no additional external circuitry required.

Universal charging for smartphones and tablet PCs
Currently, mobile users face inconvenience as chargers for mobile phones and tablets, such as 5W and 10W models, are limited to use with only a single brand. Since a charger must be purchased separately every time a new mobile device is bought, it is common for households to have multiple adapters lying around. Ultimately, these adapters are discarded as waste. TI’s TPS2511 intelligent USB charging controller not only complies with the USB Battery Charge 1.2 standard but also provides additional charging algorithms to the system. By combining a current-limiting USB power switch with a dedicated USB charging port identification circuit, it automatically identifies the voltage of USB 2.0 and 3.0 data lines and provides corresponding electrical characteristic information, thereby safely charging compatible devices.
