Western Digital Automotive Storage Completes Compatibility Verification with Renesas Automotive SoCs

With the explosion of vehicle data, automotive storage is increasingly using emerging technologies such as human-machine interfaces (HMIs), cognitive computing, and computer vision.
Therefore, automotive storage solutions require not only support for the latest features such as high-resolution graphics and image processing, and video sensing, but also high durability and reliability to operate for long periods of time even in environments with extreme temperature and humidity and strong vibration.
iNAND e.MMC 5.1 EFD Storage Solution
Western Digital announced on the 12th that its 'Automotive Grade iNAND e.MMC 5.1 Embedded Flash Drive (EFD)' storage solution has completed compatibility verification for Renesas' 'R-Car Automotive SoC'.
Western Digital plans to use this validation to further expand its support for automotive applications that require high performance, reliability, and extreme operating temperature ranges.
Designed for low power consumption and long lifespan, the iNAND Automotive Grade e.MMC 5.1 EFD storage solution is a software development environment for automotive applications provided by Renesas.It is also included in the 'R-Car Starter Kit Premier'.
“Western Digital, a key partner of Renesas, provides a wide range of storage solutions to support the development of high-end and data-intensive automotive applications,” said Naoki Yoshida, vice president of Automotive Technical Account Management, Automotive Solutions Business Unit, Renesas Electronics. “With compatibility with Western Digital’s iNAND automotive-grade storage solutions, the R-Car automotive SoC family can now deliver robust automotive solutions with even higher reliability.”
“Western Digital’s iNAND Automotive Grade e.MMC 5.1 EFD solution has been validated for compatibility with the R-Car SoC and is included in the R-Car Starter Kit, helping developers reduce design uncertainty and accelerate time to market for a variety of automotive applications,” said Oded Sagee, senior director of Western Digital’s Devices Division.

WD Launches WD Blue NVMe SSD Targeting Mainstream PC Users
Western Digital has added a new product, 'WD Blue SN500 NVMe SSD', to its WD Blue SSD portfolio. The newly introduced SN500 maintains the reliability characteristic of the WD Blue product line while delivering approximately three times higher performance compared to SATA products in the same lineup. Optimized for multitasking and resource-intensive applications, the product supports instant access to files and programs for content creators and PC enthusiasts. Based on Western Digital's proprietary 3D NAND technology, firmware, and controller, the 500GB model achieves maximum sequential read speeds of 1,700MB/s and sequential write speeds of 1,450MB/s, with low power consumption of approximately 2.7W.

The Korean external storage system market grew 3.8% in 2018.
2018년 국내 외장형 스토리지 시스템 시장은 4,649억원 규모로 전년 대비 3.8% 성장한 것으로 나타났다. 기업의 데이터 용량 증가와 AFA의 보급이 시장 성장을 견인한 것으로 분석된다. 기업형 스토리지의 전체 시장 매출을 살펴보면 전년대비 5.4% 성장한 1조 78억원을 기록했다. 시장 성장은 글로벌 반도체 경기의 호황으로 국내 반도체 제조사가 사상 최대 매출을 달성하며 IT 인프라에 대한 투자를 늘린 데 따른 것으로 보인다.
