TI, 3MHz, 100mA step-down DC/DC converter
20% extension of battery life for ultra-low power wireless applications
Integrated bypass switch and DCS-Control™ technology
Extend battery life with high-performance voltage regulator
TI Korea (CEO Jaejin Kim, www.ti.com/ww/kr ) August 4, 2011 – TI has launched the TPS62730, a 3 MHz, 100 mA synchronous step-down DC/DC converter integrating a bypass switch and proprietary DCS-Control technology. This new device extends battery life by up to 20% compared to competitor solutions in low-power wireless applications and MSP430™ MCU-based applications. With an operating current of only 25 μA, this high-performance device is suitable for a wide range of low-power applications, including Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE) systems, metering and building technologies, mobile phones, electronic devices, and medical and human interface devices.
The TPS62730 achieves 95% conversion efficiency and reduces current draw from the battery in transmit and receive modes. The device's ultra-low power bypass switch consumes only 30nA of current in sleep and low-power modes. The TPS62730 converter also generates rated output voltage ripple of less than 15mVpp, providing low-noise power for low-power RF applications such as TI's 2.4GHz CC2540 and CC430 System-on-Chip (SoC) solutions. Orders for samples and evaluation modules, as well as datasheets, SwitcherPro™ design tools, and downloads of PSpice® and TINA-TI™ models for the TPS62730, are available at www.ti.com/tps62730-pr .
DCS-Control technology
DCS-Control™ technology is an advanced regulation topology that combines the benefits of hysteric characteristics and voltage mode control in a single device, enabling superior AC line and transient load regulation. This technology allows for seamless transitions between high-load and low-load (saving mode) operation. Additionally, an additional voltage feedback loop ensures accuracy in the DC output. DCS-Control technology can save space and costs by reducing the need for external filtering components.
Key Features and Advantages
• Suitable for RF applications as it generates extremely low output voltage ripple across the entire load range (less than 15mVpp).
• Small 12mm² solution size: Requires only 3 external components with 3MHz frequency and fixed output voltage options
• Supports lithium-based primary batteries such as Li-SOCI2, LiSO2, and Li-MnO2, and two alkaline batteries with an input voltage range of 1.9V to 3.9V.
• Supports the sleep and low-power modes of modern RF transceivers with an ultra-low power shutdown/bypass mode current of 30nA (rated).
