STM32 programming has been further simplified.

STMicroelectronics announced on the 10th that it has released the latest version of STM32 CubeProgrammer, which enhances convenience for STM32 MCU and MPU users and further strengthens the STM32 Cube ecosystem.

Cube Programmer integrated multi-device programmer functions into a single tool. Therefore, the user can program the device by selecting and connecting the desired interface, such as the JTAG or SWD (Single-Wire Debug) pins of the MCU, as well as UART, USB, SPI, I2C, or CAN interfaces.

The new multi-OS software provides the benefits and flexibility of a consistent integrated environment by replacing various tools, such as STVP (ST Visual Programmer), DFuSe USB Device Firmware Upgrade Programmer, Windows-only STM32 Flash Loader, and software utilities used with ST-Link. Going forward, new STM32 products will be supported only in STM32 Cube Programmer.

The Cube Programmer incorporates the STM32 TPC (Trusted Package Creator) function, which encrypts firmware using AES-GCM keys and protects the OEM's IP (Intellectual Property) by operating in conjunction with the STM32HSM-V1's HSM (Hardware Security Module).

The HSM enables OEMs to limit the number of devices they can program by managing authentication and licensing using Counter-Limited Secure Firmware Install (SFI). The first STM32HSM, with a programming limit of up to 300 units for prototyping, will be ready in late July 2019.
