Signed a business agreement with the Korea Small Business & Venture Corporation

LG Uplus is expanding 5G smart factories to small and medium-sized enterprises.

LG Uplus signed a 'business agreement for the demonstration application of a 5G-based smart factory learning center' with the Korea Small Business & Venture Corporation on the 15th.

LG Uplus anticipates that the 5G B2B market will open up in earnest in the second half of this year and plans to expand the target audience for its 5G smart factory solutions from large corporations to the small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) market through strategic cooperation with the Korea Small Business & Venture Corporation, the largest educational institution for SMEs and venture companies in Korea.

The 'Smart Factory Expansion Project' being promoted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups aims to deploy 30,000 smart factories and train 60,000 operating personnel by 2022.

To this end, the Korea Small Business & Venture Corporation plans to apply new technologies such as 5G to the Smart Factory Learning Center, a training facility at the Small Business & Venture Training Institute in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, and expand the construction of smart training centers nationwide, including in Jeonju, Jeonbuk and Changwon, Gyeongnam.

In line with this, LG Uplus will... mobile robots, MCT equipment sensors, and vision inspection at the Smart Factory Learning Center of the Ansan SME Training Institute by the end of this coming August We are applying new technologies, such as 5G modules and industrial IoT solutions like motor diagnostics and direct cameras, to training facilities including ROS (Remote Operation System). We also plan to incorporate 5G technology into the Smart Factory Learning Center to be built in the future and showcase it as a smart factory training facility.

In addition, both sides agreed to exchange various projects and policies to promote the adoption of smart factories and to cooperate on supporting startups based on new technologies such as 5G.

LG Uplus anticipates that smart factories, smart drones, and connected cars (autonomous vehicles) will be in the spotlight in the 5G B2B sector and is pursuing various demonstration projects.

At the MWC held in Spain last February, LG Electronics showcased smart factory technology to global ICT operators that connects the Barcelona site with its Pyeongtaek factory in Korea in real time to remotely control logistics robots and monitor parts transport and the factory environment.

"We expect that the cooperation between the two parties will serve as a catalyst for the widespread adoption of smart factories and the promotion of specialized personnel in smart manufacturing," said Cho Won-seok, Senior Vice President and Head of the Corporate New Business Group at LG Uplus. "Based on our know-how in building 5G Smart Factory Learning Centers, we will create 5G smart factory business models specialized for small and medium-sized enterprises and pioneer the B2B market."
