Launch of the affordable TMS320C665x Keystone multicore DSP with enhanced density and scalability for enterprise gateway developers
TI Korea (CEO Kent Jeon, www.ti.com/ww/kr ) August 13, 2012 – TI (CEO Kent Jeon) has launched the Keystone-based TMS320C665x, a highly dense and scalable multicore DSP solution. The TMS320C665x is ideal for enterprise gateway applications, such as Session Border Controllers (SBCs) and IP PBX gateways, achieving unprecedented system-level power and cost efficiency. By utilizing TI's Keystone-based TMS320C665x multicore Digital Signal Processor (DSP) devices, developers can now more efficiently handle specialized gateway tasks, including voice coding matching, tone and signaling messaging processing, fax-to-voice distinction, converting traditional circuit-switched connections to IP, and voice quality management and reporting. Ramesh Kumar, Manager of TI’s Multicore Processor Business Unit, stated, “TI’s latest multicore DSPs provide a comprehensive solution that perfectly meets all the specialized processing capabilities required by gateway developers.” He added, “The C665x DSPs deliver the highest level of performance at the target channel density while minimizing power consumption.” “Our new Keystone device not only meets the specific and specialized requirements of enterprise gateway design but also provides a solution that enables developers to design differentiated and successful products in today’s highly competitive market,” he said.
TI's C665x DSPs provide a balanced alternative for voice processing, signaling, and system-based applications. In the event of a sudden surge in SIP messaging, TI's DSPs offer an efficient way to enhance today's solutions. TI's C665x multicore processors are ideal for enterprise environments due to their excellent scalability and wide channel density. The 850 MHz TMS320C6654 DSP supports up to 64 G.729AB channels, while the 1 MHz TMS320C6655 DSP supports up to 128 G.729AB channels. The 1.25 GHz TMS320C6657 DSP provides ample headroom for applications requiring additional density.
Supply timing and price
TI's C665x processors can be purchased for under $30 in 10,000-unit quantities. Offering a power-optimized solution at an affordable price and featuring three compatible pins, they are an optimal product for developers looking to transition from single-core to multi-core processors. The C6657 includes two 1.25GHz DSP cores, delivering up to 80 GMACs and 40 GFLOPs. The C6655 and C6654 single-core solutions provide up to 40 GMACs and 20 GFLOPs, and 27.2 GMACs and 13.6 GFLOPs, respectively. Under normal operating conditions, the power consumption of C6657, C6655, and C6654 is 3.5W, 2.5W, and 2W, respectively.
Streamline development work with comprehensive tools and support
TI provides Telogy® VoIP software modules to streamline application development, which are available for free download at www.ti.com/tool/telecomlib . These software modules enable developers to further differentiate their solutions and products. Additionally, TI offers easy-to-use and affordable Evaluation Modules (EVMs) to help developers quickly get started with designs using C6654, C6655, and C6657 DSPs. The TMDSEVM6657L is available for $349, while the TMDSEVM6657LE, an Evaluation Module that includes a faster high-speed onboard emulator, is priced at $549. These Evaluation Modules include a free Multicore Software Development Kit, TI's powerful Code Composer Studio IDE (Integrated Development Environment), and application/demo code suites, allowing developers to simplify designing with the new platforms and save time.
