Top-tier MSC8156 DSP deployed in Huawei TD-SCDMA base stations across China
August 14, 2012, Seoul, Korea – Huawei, a world-leading provider of information and communications technology solutions, has deployed facilities based on Freescale devices again, two years after selecting Freescale’s (NYSE: FSL, www.freescale.com ) MSC8156 DSP (Digital Signal Processor) as the core processing engine for its next-generation TD-SCDMA base stations. The MSC8156 DSP played a key role in the rapid adoption of Huawei’s successful TD-SCDMA infrastructure equipment by Chinese telecommunications companies, and Freescale’s DSP has once again recently been selected as the foundational solution for Huawei’s next-generation carrier deployments.
Huawei selected Freescale Semiconductor's MSC8156 DSP as a solution to provide high-performance digital signal processing capabilities to multiple TD-SCDMA base stations. The Freescale MSC8156 DSP enables Huawei to supply scalable, energy-efficient, and low-cost base stations that take TD-SCDMA wireless network performance to a new level through its outstanding processing performance, programmability, high-speed embedded accelerator, and interfaces.
"Huawei is striving to provide customer-centric solutions and products by leveraging the performance and programmability of the Freescale MSC8156 DSP," said Chen Xi, CTO of Huawei's Wireless Network Business Unit. "Freescale products have contributed to significantly increasing overall base station efficiency by providing highly efficient DSP cores and accelerators, and have helped Huawei provide the industry's largest number of TD-SCDMA carriers within base stations and expand system flexibility."
Designed for a wide range of broadband wireless standards (including TD-SCDMA), the Freescale MSC8156 DSP is a flagship product supporting physical layer processing in Huawei TD-SCDMA base stations. This device is a solution that combines six DSP cores based on SC3850 StarCore® core technology, a high-throughput, standards-compliant baseband accelerator that supports the latest wireless standards, and high-speed interfaces such as Serial RapidIO, PCI-Express, and Gigabit Ethernet to support various system topologies and high throughput requirements, all designed to dramatically improve the performance of wireless broadband base station equipment.
"Freescale is pleased to be part of Huawei's cutting-edge base station portfolio," said Scott Aylor, General Manager of Freescale's Wireless Access Business Unit. "By widely adopting the MSC8156 DSP, Huawei was able to develop world-class products and establish successful deployment plans with China's top telecommunications companies."
In addition to its powerful base station DSP product family, Freescale is a global leader in RF power solutions for cellular infrastructure equipment and boasts a long-standing track record of successful RF technology cooperation with Huawei. Huawei also extensively uses Freescale’s QorIQ® and PowerQUICC® communication processors, which are optimized for its wireless infrastructure applications.
